I used to be an hour glass size 14 until ds came along. He's now 8 months, I'm still breastfeeding, have gone back to work and have about 8lbs over pre-preg weight. Size wise I seem to swither around 16 with occasion 14 and 18 fitting depending on make but with a huge wobbly stomach to compensate for (I had a cs).

How do I find a nice smart skirt that will make me look good with current fashions? Nipped in at the waist will be a complete disaster.

I had a skirt from topshop from 3 years ago slightly 50ish style (flares out and flattens stomach) which my dh just ruined by putting in the washing machine (dry clean only).

Does anyone know where you can get a nice flattering skirt preferably in highly washable material?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Principles is a great place for skirts and they usually cut quite generously round the waist/tummy. Most of their things are washable too and lots of designs flare out to balance the tummy. Must have a look there myself, have the same prob as you, post DS2...

A slightly dropped waistline is more flattering - ie a waist which sits a little under your navel with a flat front. White Stuff good although not that smart.

How about this type of thing?

That's a good shape (pannacotta's link) - generall thsoe sort of diangonal seams work well at disguising a belly.

[[http://www.whitestuff.com/WhiteStuffSite/girls_skirts/22248.html] could work

Yes I am in London. I used to look in Reiss before pg but never even found a 14 there.

I tried Principles yesterday. All the clothes looked nice but none were in size 16 so thoroughly depressing.

Then today I tried White Stuff in my lunch break and came back with 2 skirts, a really nice sweater and a tshirt so am feeling much happier. They had loads of things in my size and really nice clothes. Pity I can't afford to shop there more regularly. I'll have to target them in the sales.

Thanks for all your advice it really helped.

www.whitestuff.com/WhiteStuffSite/girls_skirts/21562.html - one of them, I can't see anymore on the website. I think the shop I went to had the old catalogue stuff.

Btw, the Principles website is excellent, if you sign up they are always doing offers and they have good range of sizes. Have used it and v fast delivery too, so worth a look maybe...

And try ebay maybe for White Stuff there are often new skirts on there for much less than shop prices.
