Help me pick a new hair style

Katymac · 27/10/2007 22:04

I have dark brown (going grey) curly hair

It is shoulder length

I have only ever had it long like this (often up in banana combs - how 80's is that) or about 3/4 inch all over

I feel I am too old for long hair - it doens't suit who I am atm

But scalped is not me eaither

So I need a simple style that takes very little time to do in the morning

Thanks

keep it long

Katymac · 27/10/2007 22:06

But it just goes frizzy

I can get highlights (I normally have copper ones)

Katymac · 27/10/2007 22:12

naturally it's mousey

Katymac · 27/10/2007 22:19

So is there a mid length style that you can have with naturally curly hair?

Bump for help

I'm desparate & I have an inate fear of hairdressers who say 'it's a lovely easy style' then you have to spend 20 minutes every morning just to not look undead

No suggestions?

Katy I think onger curly hair can look aging. As I've hit my 30s I've gone shorter but not short. Have a look in some magazines (hair ones) for some mid length styles. They are long enough to let your hair look curly and retain shape all over rather than go flat on top. YOu'll need a trim every 6-8 weeks to retain the style/shape but I find that also reduces the liklihood of it going frizzy with split ends

Good luck

Thanks Silkcushion - I think layers & short(er) are definatly the way to go

fancy seeing you here silk. Any more signs?

I too have shoulder length curly hair. The trick is to keep it well cut, very well conditioned and use serum. I mostly blow dry mine straight and use curlers for a smooth but wavy look. This requires patience to blow dry but can last for days with minimum maintenance.

Every so often I wash my hair, smooth through the serum and leave it dry naturally. The key thing here is to leave it alone until dry. The normally results in non frizzy curls.

A longer style does give scope for variety so long as you're prepared to put some effort in. Ponytails IMO are OK if done correctly.

Of course my hair is totally unpredictable and often rather mad, so you may wish to ignore me.

Still here Duchess. Had a show yesterday afternoon. Contractions are a bit hit and miss though. Perhaps babysilk is coming tomorrow to give her mummy a birthday present?

TheHeadlessDuchess · 31/10/2007 19:23

What a way to spend your birthday though.

How are you feeling? I felt really quite ill before giving birth, like I had the flu. My mother had the same.

hiya katy, you sound like me, but i tend to shun the banana clip and use lots of kirby grips to pin it up all higgly piggedly, it's the only look that suits!

personally, i've always mid legnth the hardest of all to wear, (like you, crop's been the only other style i've liked) but that could just be my face shape.

have you considered delaying a drastic re-style for a couple of months and trying a different take on long? i've got a lot of much shorter layers round the crown and on top and it really helps. plus, my hairdresser (london-based, fab curly cutter) is great at finding fringe legnths that are long enough to not look too fringey - i blow dry it smooth and it makes me feel less frizzy.

'fraid i disagree with the duchess... my mop NEEDS drying with a diffuser to give my curls smoothness and shape.

BUT do agree that tweaking with the highlight could work wonders too, some nice chunky ones underneath to give curls real definiton and finer ones near the face?

just my thoughts. good luck!!!

TheHeadlessDuchess · 31/10/2007 22:49

Now, if I use a diffuser I look like Robert Plant. Not a good look.
