I have thick hair with annoying kinks and waves rather than curls these days so I need to straighten it every day but that combined with highlights is causing no end of problems and I'm trying to grow it.
Therefore I will splash the cash but what do you all recommend ???
TIA

The John Frieda stuff is good. That's about the most expensive I've used! That and Toni and Guy but the JF stuff is much better imho.

Tinker · 28/10/2007 15:34

Spray-on conditioners are better than wash-out ones according to my hairdresser. I still use both. Wash-out ones are really detanglers for me.

ScaryScienceT · 28/10/2007 15:37

Without a doubt - Pantene.

emmatomATO · 28/10/2007 15:43

Pantene seems to coat my hair in a sort of gloop.

I think I've tried everything under the sun and now keep it to a list of 3 which I vary and which are all good for me and I seem to have similar hair to yours but with these shampoos I'm down to straightening it twice a week, not every day like I used to. They are :

Tigi bedhead - the dumb blond shampoo is brilliant (you don't have to be blond to use it - or dumb for that matter!). About £11 a bottle, but it is quite a big bottle and lasts for ages. The spray on serum in a purle bottle is brill to use after drying and before straightening.

Andrew Collinge frizz free range. All the products in this range give great results.

The pink Loreal range. Cheap as chips but works really well.

As I said I do alternate the above as it's meant to be good for your hair and it seems to work for me.

Hope thats of some help.

smurfgirl · 28/10/2007 15:56

Bed Head and Toni and Guy Label M is the best 'expensive' brand I have used.

Expensive conditioner paired with Pantene clarifying shampoo (its sort of a see through blue colour) works very well too.

sophierosie · 28/10/2007 15:57

I have the detangler and it leaves my hair really sleek

boolepew · 28/10/2007 16:31

Tresemme, my hair gets dye abuse all the time, but people always comment how how lovely and shiney it is.

boolepew · 28/10/2007 16:34

Oh! I went upstairs to check the spelling and then spelt shiny wrong! Good job I have lovely hair to get me by.

slalomsuki · 28/10/2007 16:41

Fris ease for me. All of them in the range Its great and my hair is similar to yours, wavy and dyed. Using it lasts two days or even more if I don't have time and has really saved me a lot of hassle.

Pantene just strips my hair and make it feel like its about to drop out.

I had some lovely chocolate smelling stuff from Waitrose but I can't remember the name and they don't do it any more

Marina · 28/10/2007 16:55

Aveda. It really is great.

GarrottedbyElasticband · 28/10/2007 17:06

well Which magazine recommended a TESco one with wheatgerm that i have since been using religiously.
unfortunately for reasons best known to themselves they have stopped bloody selling it.

JillyE · 28/10/2007 20:06

L'oreal Series Expert everytime for me - I've tried every expensive shampoo/conditioner possible...paul mitchell, aveda, toni and guy etc but absolutely love this L'oreal one - if your hair is a bit dry try the absolute repair conditioner mask - in a yellow pot - absolutely fabulous!

I'm going to ask santa for some this year as I'm skint and not using it at the moment.

chocolatespiders · 28/10/2007 20:37

jilly do you buy that in salon?

chocolatespiders · 28/10/2007 20:38

forgot to say i use the pink loreal one called elive, > very nice for damaged hair

JillyE · 28/10/2007 20:44

yes you can buy it in the salon or get it from lookfantastic website

morningglory · 28/10/2007 20:48

Carita make georgeous shampoos as conditioners. I use mine sparingy because the conditioner is about 40 quid. Otherwise, Fredrick Fekkai does really nice shampoos and conditioners are a much more reasonable price (I think it's 12 pounds a bottle). Can get at Space NK.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/10/2007 22:18

Hideehi - you have my hair! Leave in conditioner - any kind, then follow up with John Frieda's Secret Agent if it's still looking fluffy.

twinsetandpearls · 29/10/2007 16:25

redken all soft range is what I usually buy.

When in America I tried aveda which was also very good.

puppydavies · 29/10/2007 16:32

aveda is fab but the dry hair ones don't smell as nice as the others which is a shame. still absolutely the best i've used.

I agree with pistachio. Kerastase is the best I've ever used, I think you can only buy it from salons. I'm a bit skint at the minute so using Tresemme...it's ok for thick, frizzy, dyed hair but will change back to Kerastase once I'm back working after maternity leave. Or might give Aveda a go!

lilospell · 30/10/2007 14:46

I'd ask your hairdresser what they'd recommend. I buy stuff from my salon (for coloured hair, so can't help with what you need) and it's been fab. Even tho it's expensive, it lasts so much longer. Used to go to Toni and Guy. Some of what they sell in the salons is (or used to be) exclusive to the salons, so you won't get it from Boots etc. Would buy from a salon or from an outlet like Sally's if you have one, where they can look at your hair and advise, rather than high street stores/supermarket.

bossykate · 30/10/2007 14:56

another vote for kerastase.

LoveAngel · 30/10/2007 16:05

Aveda - the Be Curly range. Fab for curly or wavy hair. they do a shampoo, conditioner, curl enhancing lotion and curl definer. Each product costs about £15 I think.

susiemj · 30/10/2007 17:57

My hairdresser - who is the only decent hairdresser I've ever had, says Bain Satin by Kerastase is the best shampoo ever. He also says that it's shampoo that is important, more than conditioner.

I've never tried it because they don;t sell it in my town but I'd trust what he says before any other!
