Chin hairs. And dead chin hairs

argh my chin is driving me mad. A few years ago I started getting thick black hairs which I plucked out. Now the hairs are either thin and hard to get hold of OR I can squeeze them out as they're rootless, but they look like little black pin pricks on my skin. As a result my chin either looks like I've got specks of pepper on it (attractive) or it's all red where I've tried to grab the hairs or squeeze them out and I've cut my skin (even more attractive). I've tried lasering them but it doesn't seem to make any difference! Any advice?

Spearmint tea helps mine, I buy loose leaves on eBay. Or dermablading.

LimeTreeGrove · 12/01/2021 16:54

I've got an epilady which gets a lot of them out so I only have to tweeze any that have been missed

RoganJosh · 12/01/2021 16:54

Rootless fine hairs that you can squeeze out sound like blackheads to me. Might help someone advise better.

VinoWitch · 12/01/2021 17:07

They're definitely hairs :-( I did used to use an epilator but then I got some shocking ingrown ones for some reason. V interesting re the spearmint tea!

Oh! Interesting.
I don’t know what you mean by rootless then.

This is a stupid question, but do you mean you drink the tea or put it on your chin?
Barearseloverofthigh · 12/01/2021 23:58

BarbaraGordon Looks like you drink it. Found this article which mentions it:

Philips lumea?

Ginkypig · 13/01/2021 01:14

The black dots left behind possibly are the roots being left behind in the follicle due to the structure of the hair being weak.

VinoWitch · 13/01/2021 06:50

I've got a lumea but it doesn't seem to make much difference, maybe cos the black dots are kind of under the skin? Yes they probably are roots in the follicle

Rootless hairs are a product of lumea/lasering.

You need to remove the hair before you lumea though - are you doing that OP as your last update sounded like you were lasering over them?

trevthecat · 13/01/2021 07:12

I get these rootless hairs. I think! They are like little black sticks?! Don't know how to explain! Not had laser treatment. I've put my hairy chin down to cysts on my ovaries and contraception but it is a full time job keeping them at bay!

VinoWitch · 13/01/2021 09:05

Yes they are like little black sticks!

@Affor eek yes I do laser over them. The non-rootless ones. I thought if you removed them the laser couldn't get to the root?

OP posts:
BarbaraGordon · 13/01/2021 13:46

@barearseloverofthigh thanks, I might give that a try

Affor · 13/01/2021 13:56

No you should always remove hair before lasering!!!

You're supposed to shave not pluck to leave the root, but to be honest I pluck and it still works (don't know the science of that!)

TheFlis12345 · 13/01/2021 13:58

For IPL the pp is correct, you need the root there as the light focuses on the dark bit, it needs that to differentiate from the skin.

BearFoxBear · 14/01/2021 21:38

I get that too - I shave my face then use the lumea. Oh the glamour!

dudsville · 14/01/2021 22:14

This might be a silly idea but would that little looped blackhead tool be of any use? It would stop you digging or tearing at the skin?
