Long Down Jacket

I saw this on Uniqlo before Christmas. Just been back to order and they are out of my size in the grey and black. Anyone seen anything similar? My budget is up to £150.

Anyone?

Sorry not seen anything else but I bought a Jil Sander for Uniqlo down coat and the measurement guide had me as medium. I'm quite petite so bought a Small and it was huge! Had to get a X small so maybe something to think about if your size is sold out?

bravotango · 09/01/2021 19:12

Is it to go underneath a coat? Personally I only find them warm enough as a layer (the ULD) and would go for a "bulkier" long down jacket. Mine is from Very but you can get them in lots of places. If you want a lightweight down jacket for use as a layer I actually really rate the Primark ones tbh!

Tazers · 09/01/2021 19:41

I got one from M&S pre Christmas. I'll have a look and see if they are still available later.

Dugee · 09/01/2021 19:53

@bravotango

As a coat. The one I've linked to would be far too bulky to be an under layer.

Thanks @ParisJeTAime

Not too keen on the furry hood and it doesn't state that it's detachable. I'll have a look around on that website though.

This is the closest I can find but it's a bit over budget.

Yes, the ultra light down range is designed to squash underneath other things as an additional layer, but can be used as an outer layer if it's not too cold outside. The Jack Wolfskin one looks great but v expensive. TK maxx can actually be quite good for this sort of thing so might be worth a look.

Tazers · 09/01/2021 23:09

The Jack Wolkskin one looks nice.

Tazers · 09/01/2021 23:10

I have a lighter summer jacket from Jack Wolfskjn and it's still going strong after 4 years.

TokyoSushi · 09/01/2021 23:14

I was looking at that Jack Wolfskin coat a few weeks ago (ended up with a Seasalt Janelle which is not what I set out to get, but I love it!)

Have a really good Internet search for the Jack Wolfskin, I could find it for about £140 just after Christmas. I have it in the short version already, it's a fab coat!

I went to link to my old Lands End coat, for you. It’s calf length, black, plain, warm and still going strong after ten years. But: not available any more, sorry. Maybe you could find one on EBay: highly recommended.

I brought the most amazing down jacket from the outdoor shop Zackti a couple of years ago, it's pretty long, fitted and like wearing a duvet. Though ripped it last week and tried to get a replacement. Sadly the shop no longer exists but it was run by mountain warehouse. I'm pretty sure my old Zackti jacket is based (or is the same) as the Isla 2 from MountainWearjouse so ordered a new one last week. It was £200ish reduced to £99. I'll reply if it's as good as the old Zackti branded one! Fingers crossed.

ihatethecold · 10/01/2021 08:53

Lands end have a sale on. I saw some long down coats for about £75.

Tazers · 10/01/2021 20:50

The Uniqlo one looks like a coat to me.

@bravotango do you live in Norway or something?

bravotango · 10/01/2021 21:44

Nope I wish - I used to work for the brand and own 2 ULD jackets. They squash into a little bag for transport and are warm, just not particularly "heavy duty" so the other padded coats referenced in the thread you could probably wear with a t-shirt underneath but personally the ULD wouldn't be warm enough for me 😁

Tazers · 10/01/2021 21:52

I've got a slim Rab microlight. It looks flimsy but is like wearing a duvet - so warm. It's a short one though, think it was £130 last year. I use it for walking.

I've got a longer, non sports one, from M&S, nowhere near as warm but fine for commuting, shopping etc. It was £90 in November 2020 but they seem to have sold out.

dreamingofsun · 11/01/2021 09:35

i've got several of these type of coats to keep warm watching football/rugby matches. got them from lands end. expensive full price but they've got a decent sale on at the moment

Dugee · 24/01/2021 17:16

@supercee

I bought the small in the end and it fits perfectly. Thanks for your advice.

I don't understand the comments about it only being an under layer. It's waterproof and has kept me warm in the weather recently, which has been 1 or 2 degrees, during the day, here. I think it's perfectly good as a coat for a British winter.
