Running Leggings

heather202090 · 06/01/2021 21:21

Having just taken up running i am struggling to stop my knickers from moving around when wearing running leggings. I have tried a few different brands of leggings which have helped to keep things in place a bit but it has not totally solved the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have this problem but there is runderwear for those who do. Maybe worth a try?

Doodallysally · 06/01/2021 21:58

Sweaty Betty Power Leggings. With a side pocket for phone and back pocket for keys. I do upwards of 15 miles a week and never have problems. They are pricey unless you get them on sale but will last ages and not lost their shape in the wash.

FirmlyRooted · 06/01/2021 22:52

Sounds like the problem is with your underwear! Too big perhaps?

I have running leggings from Adidas, Nike, Stryder, Sainsbury's (really good too) and don't have this issue so maybe try different pants

SoLongFurlough · 06/01/2021 23:19

You need your leggings to be tighter I think it sounds like you need to size down

Chlordiazepoxide · 06/01/2021 23:20

I got a gorgeous set from Matalan, cheap too

MoltonSilver · 07/01/2021 01:29

I've never had this problem and I've run in all manner of running gear. I'm inclined to think the underwear is the problem, not the leggings. Are they a satiny finish or a cotton type?

dgirluk · 07/01/2021 08:50

Another fan of Runderwear here - they're a bit like shorts instead of knickers. Really comfy and no rubbing or moving around - just need to adjust the thigh bit when you pull your leggings up (or at least I do).

AuntieStella · 07/01/2021 08:56

Uniqlo seamless microfibre are a fraction of the price of runderwear , and I think they are just as good. But runderwear have a sale on at the most Kent, so if you fancy treating yourself, now is a good moment.

For leggings, it's hard to beat Decathlon (inexpensive, good fabrics school, porkers, drawstring) and they sometimes have light compression ones which should stop, anything miving around.

Otherwise try 2XU or UnderArmour for compression, or Nike for general good quality running

(sorry typing error and keyboard having a geographically inventive urge)

Primark sell 3pk of full pants in a stretchy fabric. Thank have a drawer full of them purely for exercise.

IShouldBeSoLurky · 07/01/2021 14:29

Don’t wear knickers! Honestly why would you buy proper technical running gear then put cotton pants underneath?

dgirluk · 07/01/2021 15:07

I think I’d get chafing from the seams :o. (Cycling is a different story). But agreed on the cotton situation!

79andnotout · 07/01/2021 15:14

Ditch the knickers!

ramarama · 07/01/2021 18:06

Sweaty Betty Power leggings are great. If you can't afford them I rate Iuga compression leggings from Amazon highly - thick and suck you in but comfy and £20-£30

justaweeone · 07/01/2021 18:08

No knickers!

Greenteandchives · 07/01/2021 18:09

I agree with ditching the knickers. They are not necessary if you wear decent quality leggings with a proper gusset and drawstring waist. And presumably the leggings go straight in for a wash?

MrsDThomas · 07/01/2021 22:44

Drawstrings! I have leggings for running and then for walking. Nikes capris keep falling down so those are for walking.

But i tend to run in shorts most of the year. Much more comfortable.

79andnotout · 08/01/2021 08:14

Another vote for sweaty Betty. I like full support when I run, I'm not overweight but have jiggly thighs and bum and the less they jiggle the more I enjoy the run.

They have a sale on at the moment. Just bought myself another couple of pairs.

I deviated recently and bought some really cheap ronhill ones that were supposed to be control level too but they don't have the same effect so are relegated to the dog walking pile.

hyork1990 · 14/01/2021 16:59

Going knickless is an option but not everyone is comfortable doing it. I think you need to try a few options as suggested and see what works best for you.

NoMoreMuchin · 14/01/2021 19:10

I think it might be the knickers too.

Runderwear were really crap for me, the shorts rode up horribly, but as pp have mentioned uniqlo airism seamless are brilliant and usually on offer if you buy 2 pairs. Primark nude seamless no vpl knickers also do the job and are about £1 a pair but don't last very long.

I'd also try running in leggings a size smaller. I second decathlon, and matalan, but most of mine come from tkmaxx (they often have a lot more choice in store than online, not a lot of use at the moment, I know).

A few runners I know buy from fabletics buy its one of those things where you have to buy every month or remember to cancel each month and I know I'd forget so I don't bother.

I now never buy running leggings without a pocket on the thigh for my phone as it saves faffing about finding a running belt or jacket in fine weather.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 14/01/2021 19:16

I have to wear Tena ladies when I run - thanks kids!

M&S good Move is great - high waist, thick fabric, phone pocket. I've heard great think about sweat Betty but the prices are astronomical.

DialsMavis · 14/01/2021 19:32

I live in cheap, crap clothes but have Sweaty Betty Power leggings (x2). I ordered a pair using klarna in the Black Friday sale when I was drunk and was willing them to be shit but they are so good I have just used my Christmas money to buy a full price Shock pair. I had ordered some more in the sale but the order got canceled for some reason and then there were so more left so had to bite the bullet as all of my other running leggings feel crap now and fall down.
