Online Clothes Shopping for a 13 Year Old Advice Please

My 13 year old dd is struggling to get clothes, in particular jeans, to fit her. She's about 153cm so a bit short for most women's sizes. She has quite a curvy figure and lots of the clothes she likes are a bit too clingy to look good and be comfortable. She's bought clothes from Marks, George and Uniqlo and had to return most of them. It's very demoralising. Any advice on the best shops to try and the best sort of fabrics to buy? She's very interested in fashion which is sadly not an interest we share. Thanks.

Hollister are good for jeans - I only buy at their reduced prices. They have lots of sizes (actually quite confusing) but my DD is similar height and I find their short length (or ankle-grazers worn as full-length) work OK. Size 6, in Petite if available tends to work in New Look and Primark.

Thanks Wittgen. Will have a look.

Yes, you need womens petite. Or styles that you have turned up at the bottom. ASOS is good for online shopping as the range is vast and the search filters are great. You can have petite as one on the filters.

My teens shop at New Look, primark and H&M when the shops are actually open.

Jeans are particularly hard to buy at the best of times. My two favour mom jeans at the moment.

FippertyGibbett · 06/01/2021 07:56

Mine buy Topshop, Pretty Little Thing and ASOS.

WestSideBoom · 06/01/2021 07:58

Also, she might want to wear a belt. That way the jeans are pulled in so you can wear even bigger jeans which is a good thing apparently. Everything is oversized at the moment.

Another think they are wearing is pull on trousers. H&M have a lot. They are like track suit bottoms but the look like trousers. There's denim ones and what my dd calls 'plaid'. 🙄

Next have some nice jeans and jean style leggings, and the thing I like about Next is that you can order loads of different sizes then just send them back/drop them off at the shop.
Try their petite sizes.

This is brilliant. Thank you so much everyone. If you could also advise on where to get tops/dresses and which clothes/shops best suited for her shape that would be fab. Thanks. Flowers

Tops are much easier and she should just wear what appeals to her, especially as she's interested in fashion. I've got two teenage girls and the way they dress is very different from each other.

H&M is good for basic stuff. For example they have plain sweatshirts for £12.99.

my 13yo gets her jeans in New Look. She's taller but a curvy size 10. They do a wide range of cuts and leg lengths - DD prefers the India skinnies at the moment. Can't advise on tops - she always wears a band shirt with a hoodie or flannel shirt over!

BeverlyCleary · 06/01/2021 09:14

Thank you Flowers

Mine don't really ever wear dresses so can't help on that front Wink

But it is a tricky age as everyone has said H&M, New Look, sometimes M & Co, superset discount store for hoddies mine live in some kind of slogan/image t shirt a favourite at the moment.is NASA and baby Yoda themed ones. So if she has a favourite TV series/ Band maybe search for tops related to that?

Mine don't really like Pretty little things I think the models look to old and the images are a bit sexualised nothing wrong with that just not relatable for my 13 year old. I'm sure the clothing would work for them but they can't seem to get past that and just say no.

KrakowDawn · 06/01/2021 17:30

I am the same height, and lots of places do 7/8ths or cropped trousers that fit me well in the length.
You haven't said what size she is, but gap, H&M, and Sainsbury's all do that length trousers. How curvy is curvy? I don't wear jeans at all I'm afraid, as I hate the fabric, but I usually have to wear a belt with non-elasticated waist trousers because I have quite a difference between waist and hips.
New look have a lot of dresses that work well for short people.

TipperarygirlinLondon · 06/01/2021 20:58

For jeans she may be better trying men's jeans as they are more flexible in terms of length/waist. Used to wear them all the time when younger...also short n curvy!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 07/01/2021 09:47

DD does very occasionally wear a dress, and if so she often goes to Thunder Egg. It's a certain look which may not appeal to your DD, but I love that on the website the shop staff model the clothes, so you can see how they look on normal, non-model types of different sizes.

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 07/01/2021 10:28

DD is 12 and quite hourglassy. Into fashion and incredibly fussy. She's v taken with all this oversized stuff. We've had success with Pull and Bear, and Zara TRF. But she does wear ?platform DMs, so they add a bit of height. Her taller sister's TopShop jeans have also worked rolled up, and with a belt.

Sickoffamilydrama · 07/01/2021 15:17

Good tip @TheTurnOfTheScrew my 13 & 11 will like that company. I like that real people are used to model them to.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/01/2021 16:56

I know they're not fashionable at the moment, but skinny jeans usually work because they can just cling at the bottom if you see what I mean.
In M&S is she getting the short sizes? Next have short options as well. I suppose dressmakers aren't open at the moment, but in general as a short person I quite often just accept that if I buy trousers I have to spend another £10 on getting them taken up.
