Where do your 40-something husbands buy clothes?

DH turns 42 next week. He really needs some new clothes, but has no idea where to shop anymore. He rarely buys clothes and isn't that interested in them. Likes good quality basics, no massive logos, casual as WFH full time.

He lives in a couple of tshirts from ASOS which are plain, with a kind of stripe running along the shoulder which I got him for his birthday last year.

So where do your DHs shop for casual stuff?

Matalan! He stopped buying designer/high end high street a few years ago, and switched to buying a fair bit from M&S but we’ve boycotted them for over a year now. He doesn’t want anything branded or logoed.

Another one who doesn't really like logos but does like the plain things so we just go straight to the wholesalers that do things like Gildan, fruit of the loom, Russell athletic etc. There's loads of options at firelabel.co.uk

DH like penguin, Lyle and Scott, Gap, Crew, shirts from Ben Sherman and Timberland.

He also has a few things from Pull and Bear but he tends to avoid large logos.

Boss, Goat and All Saints.

DP is 45.

Jeans - always Levi’s
Knitwear - Uniqlo, John Lewis, M&S. Hoodies from Topman.
T-shirts - Zara, Topman, H&M, New Look
Trainers - Adidas

Work trousers/shirts - M&S, John Lewis

He’s 6ft 5 and a lot of things tend to be too short in the leg or body. Also not very interested in clothes and would be going around in t-shirts from gigs he went to at uni if I hadn’t binned them all!

Finisterre
Bamboo Clothing
Cos
Brothers We Stand
Odd thing from Fat Face or White Stuff

DH (47) pretty much shops exclusively now at TXMaxx. He tends to go Diesel for jeans, Nicole Fahri and Vivienne Westwood for shirts and then a mixture for tshirts and polo-shirts. He’ll shop at places like Allsaints for leather jackets/coats. Has about 20 pairs of trainers, all Adidas. And then shops at Grenson, Jeffrey West and Oliver Sweeney for boots/work shoes.

Rollergirl11 · 05/01/2021 10:44

Oh, and now that he’s working from home he’s actually bought a few pairs of hoodies and joggers (which he has never previously worn). They were the brand Nicci bought from JD Sports.

Alexandernevermind · 05/01/2021 10:47

For casual wear mine always finds something in Weird Fish.
He got a couple of good quality shirts, a blazer and good trousers from a gent's outfitter that he can mix and match for smart occasions.
Sainsbury's are good for jeans.

My husband (49) is tall and slim and quite particular about clothes. He buys bits on sale from Paul Smith, Hackett, Gant and Belstaff mostly, and his basics/the rest of his wardrobe comes from M&S, pretty much.

I'm 6'4" with a long back, these are my go to staples;
Socks/undies/jeans - M&S
Shirts - Charles Tyrwhitt, good quality & fit, always a sale on
T shirts - various but Canterbury are very good, nice hoodies too
Trainers - Adidas or Nike but not expensive ones
Shoes/boots - Timberland, Barker, Bass Weejuns (loafers). Nice brands but often on sale or from outlets etc Got some very nice oxblood lace ups in the local army surplus shop £25 for officer pattern, looked them up & they were £160!
Coat - Snugpak for warmth & practically, Barbour to keep the water out, navy overcoat from a charity shop for formal
MIL & DW have made me a couple of sweaters & a cardigan, made to measure

I have bought my DH several items from Community Clothing. No logos, excellent quality that washes well, classic styles and ethically produced in the UK. Founded by Patrick Grant from The Sewing Bee who seems to know a thing or two about clothes.
