Could anyone recommend a hair mask?

My hair is:

  • a bit frizzy and dry, the sort of hair that is supposed to be straight but frizzes immediately in damp weather
  • coloured mainly for the grey but not bleached
  • largely un styled due to lockdown / wfh/ small children

I’d like it to be smooth and glossy! Any recommendations please? I’ve never really bothered as I’ve always assumed my hair isnt the right hair type!

coconut oil massaged on the scalp and left for as long as possible wrapped in ashowercap.
Olaplex 3 i think it is works similarly. coconut oil is cheaper.

I once used a mix of egg and olive oil. It was a recipe online. Left my hair feeling beautiful.

I like the Percy and Reed one - you can buy sachets and try it without committing to buying the full size product.

In which case mayonnaise should work.

Have you tried aveda smooth control?. It’s not cheap but annoyingly it works really well so you have to keep buying it.

My hair is the same. I have ordered a sample of Dizziak and will report back.

EasternDailyStress · 03/01/2021 21:51

I'm much the same as you OP and I've found it really hard to find products that actually nourish your hair to make it shiny. Most of the masks I've found contain silicone, which just coats your hair.

Might have a go at the coconut oil though.

InTheLongGrass · 03/01/2021 21:56

After a recommendation on MN, I've bought Garnier hair mask. Not massively keen on the smell, but it seems to work, is cheep, and silicone free.

JaceLancs · 03/01/2021 22:28

I use garnier hair masks
I like the purple one as it helps get rid of the brassiness when my dyed hair has been in the sun

LongIslandIcedT · 03/01/2021 22:32

I've just switched to the dream lengths shampoo and conditioner, it works on my dry and coloured hair. Very soft and smooth. I do an argan oil mask once a week.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 03/01/2021 22:38

I was using dream lengths until recently- I thought I'd give this a go:

It's amazing stuff! My hair feels in much better condition and much glossier/less frizzy.

There's also a mask:

The Garnier banana hair food tub works a treat for my dry hair. I leave on for 10 minutes whilst having a soak in the bath and rinse with cold water shower.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 03/01/2021 22:59

Living Proof restore mask is pricey but does wonders on my thick hair. I think it’s silicone free too.

Qwertyguerty · 03/01/2021 23:08

Try Damaged By Lush. On the pricey side but I tried it 2 weeks ago and my hair feels incredible

I usually have very dry very thick hair and my hair drank this up. Best thing I've ever used, think I'll be using it every 8-12 weeks

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 03/01/2021 23:11

The Superdrug argan oil one is amazing! I leave it on overnight and it’s brilliant. I use olaplex too and my hair actually feels very similar after this. Is so cheap too

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 23:29

Philip Kingsley elasticiser is the best for my fine, dry, frizzy, curly, coloured, nightmare hair.

About to try Superdrug dupe tho...

Frequentflier · 04/01/2021 10:30

I am Asian and have always used coconut oil, but find its not enough for my super dry, super thick, and currently v frizzy hair any more. Any budget reccos for Asian hair? I would try the Garnier but I really hate the smell of banana.

MoltonSilver · 04/01/2021 10:40

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer works miracles on my hair.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/01/2021 10:55

I use the Superdrug pre shampoo Argan oil treatment too. It’s amazing stuff.
