I'm 5ft 1, size 14 ish. Working on the weight loss. Wah for the foreseeable but I want some nice boots for a walk, a cosy coat, (seen people with lovely soft three quarter length coats) some flattering long jumpers. I am absolutely crap at clothes, just awful. Pleas help!

Get yourself over to the Style and Beauty board - you'll get loads of help there. Or get Mumsnet admin to move this thread over there

Woolovers v neck tunic for flattering, long jumper.

Seasalt Towpath boots are great if you like long boots, but they are tight round the calf. They are tight on me and I have skinny legs shame about the rest of me. Or how about country boots like Dublin River boots, if they are for walking? I'm tempted by some of those myself actually!

If you want ankle boots, maybe chelsea boots or lace up hiking boots or something?

I always start with footwear when I'm trying to sort out my wardrobe. Helps me formulate a capsule, as I'm weirdly fussy about shoes going with outfits!

I'm after some bits this year too, but having to save up for some of them. Might even sell some clothes to try and pay for them! If a beautiful camel coat comes up here, I am in the market for one.

Thank you where would I get a wool over long neck tunic from?

Thank you. Have got it moved

Woolovers is the name of the shop! Hang on, I'll link.

Macarena1990 · 03/01/2021 16:02

I'd go for dr marten boots. Either the Chelsea ones or the traditional lace ups. Go with everything and update anything, plus they last forever.

I buy all my coats from topshop. Lots to choose from and lots in the sale.

TeaSpillage · 03/01/2021 16:03

The DM chelsea boots are great. If you want ankle length, I'd go with them. They take some wearing in though I think. DMs often do!

I got some nice long, boxy jumpers from H&M that go nice with skinny jeans and boots. These are two I bought recently.

I'm also short. I generally get my coats from Next in the Petite range. Dorothy Perkins also had some nice petite stuff. For boots, I also got my last pair from Next because I need a wide calf. They are like wellies but a bit smarter.

Thank you so much! Does woolover come up quite loose? I want loose jumpers!

I actually bought a nice jumper recently fo £12 from sainsburys tu range. It was a mans one! I am your size but busty and found it fitted perfectly and was longer than the ladies style. Have had loads of compliments wearing it and easy to jazz up with a scarf. Surprisingly warm. Also I have a couple of tunic styles from Lands End.

RuthTopp · 05/01/2021 08:27

Whilst you are renewing your wardrobe, adopt the one in / one out theory.
That means you buy a new ( hopefully better quality) item an immediately get rid of something currently in your wardrobe. That way you will end up with some lovely things to wear.
Some people take it further , by buying really good quality clothes and getting rid of 2 of the same item. But 1 Woolovers jumper @ £70 get rid of 2 Primark jumpers that were £12 each .

TeaSpillage · 05/01/2021 09:13

I'd say woolovers are true to size. I'm busty too. If you want a very loose fit, I would try sizing up.

I am definitely for getting rid of cheap items and replacing with fewer better quality items. This is my project for 2021.

cheeseisthebest · 05/01/2021 09:37

I'm a 12/14 so would go for a 14 maybe?

OP posts:
TeaSpillage · 05/01/2021 09:43

Yeah, I'd go 14. Or both and return one?

Some of their things are small, medium, large etc. I think medium would be the right one for you.

cheeseisthebest · 05/01/2021 11:07

Thank you x

Darklane · 05/01/2021 11:16

I’m exact same height as you & size 14 & Woolovers medium fits perfectly. Bit the great thing about them is they give the actual size in inches. They advise you to measure one of your jumpers that you like the fit of across the back & get the equivalent size in inches if you like how it fits.
My two comfiest pairs of walking boots are hiking boots I bought from Sports Direct & a smarter pair of ankle boots from M&S.
What sort of coat are you after? Wool or waterproof?

Iamthewombat · 05/01/2021 11:18

Jigsaw do good coats, and have some nice three quarter length ones in the sale.

Faith50 · 05/01/2021 12:07

Teaspillage and Ruthtopp

I am doing the very same thing with my wardrobe. I have a habit of buying cheap end clothes and clothes in sales that I find 'okay'. I want a wardrobe in which I find every item flattering and well cute even if it means owning less clothes. I have looked at websites and am committing to only buying from these. Goodbye to H&M, New Look, Primark, Next, Dorothy PerkinsSmile

RuthTopp · 05/01/2021 15:56

@Faith50
Yes I agree it's better to have less , well loved , good quality clothes than lots of cheaper bad quality rubbish.

inisfree · 05/01/2021 16:07

@TeaSpillage was gifted Dublin river boots this Christmas and can confirm they are lovely, warm, comfortable and appropriately stylish IMO

TeaSpillage · 05/01/2021 16:23

Oh inisfree, you tease! I want some. They are definitely on my list. To replace two pairs of cheaper walking boots though, tbf.
