Hi just wondering if anybody has tried the either hair masks above? If so which one and what did it do to your coloured hair?
I have just dyed my hair to an ashy brown/blonde.Which fanola mask should I be using to avoid my hair going brassy?

I tried the no yellow. I bought the shampoo and the mask and gave the mask away, it was SO drying. I thought itd at least be conditioning but it wasn’t at all.

I ended up finding what worked for me was weekly treatments with the shampoo. Apply to dry hair, leave for 10-20 minutes then rinse out. It’s still drying but I found the mask terrible.

Yep- my natural colour is dark brown and I went ashy - so my hair was fairly damaged anyway. I got into the habit of doing one purple shampoo treatment (dry hair was key for me) one week and then a deep conditioning treatment the other week.

I also mixed in some of the purple shampoo with my usual once or twice a week - it’s intense stuff!

They are supposed to be really effective! I have wanted to try the No Yellow as I bleach my hair platinum but don't use dye - I solely rely on purple products to tone.

If you hair is brown, you need the No Orange. Every hair colour has warm undertones, and the colour of these undertones depend on the colour of the hair. Blonde hair has yellow undertones, dark blonde to about mid brown has orange undertones, and very dark hair has red undertones.

Hair toning is based on the colour wheel and purple is the opposite of yellow meaning it will neutralise brassy hair in blondes but do nothing or very very little for anything below level 8 hair. The No Orange should be helpful in keeping brunette hair ashy :)

@dizzyupthegirl86 can I ask what deep conditioning treatment you used? Also was it the "No yellow" fanola mask you used?I want my colour to remain as it is..ashy and not for it to turn brassy.

Definitely the no yellow! I found if I used it about three times a week, my hair went very silvery which I really liked.
I used elasticiser by Philip Kingsley, and on the odd occasion joico k-pak reconstructor - I had a nice little Sunday routine of chilling out with a face mask for about 20 minutes with my choice of purple shampoo or elasticiser on my hair!

I use the Fanola no orange shampoo on my mid brown hair, it’s great at reducing brassy tones. I also have the conditioner, but it makes no difference to the colour, and it’s not very good as a conditioner either, so I never use it!

I just tone using dye mixed in with conditioner, because those shampoos are so drying.

This Shrine set is good:

It's just pigment with no developer or ammonia or whatever, so it won't damage your hair. I think I got mine in Boots.

PearlescentIridescent · 02/01/2021 08:12

Oh do Fanola only do Shampoo? That's a shame, I do tone only with conditioner. A good shampoo is good for maintenance though :)

WaltzesWithSnobs · 02/01/2021 12:44

I have the one on the left. I use it after bleaching, before putting on the pigment. I haven't found it much help tbh! But I am new to using it, maybe just haven't figured out the knack to it.

The shampoos are really good. Don't leave them on too long if you have very light hair as you'll get lilac rather than ash for a few days.
I find them fine used once a week with a decent conditioner after.
