When does it start working?

I got a Dermatica prescription after 8 years of adult acne (clindaymycin, niacinamide and 0.025% tret). I've been using it for the past month but the acne is still there and I got a new cyst a couple of days ago.

Any experience of this?

How long did it take to work for you?

Is this normal?

Thanks.

Have you seen the dr?.

MilkshakeandFries · 01/01/2021 19:41

In my second month of the same prescription...still getting the odd one or two but considerably less, plus they're smaller and clearing up faster.

@Fluffycloudland77
Nope

@MilkshakeandFries
Thanks. Mmmmm....maybe it's too soon to tell and it'll just take some more time.

I'd be interested in hearing from people because maybe with some of us, it takes longer?!

You can see the dr about it too. That’s what their for, it’s a bacterial skin infection and they can treat it.

I've been to the doctor before Dermatica many many times and was on topical antibiotic for years. This has been a long road.

The big cyst I got a few days ago does seem to be reducing much quicker than it would have before but other ones are still hanging around. I suppose I expected more improvement by now. Perhaps the increased alcohol consumption in recent weeks hasn't helped!

@Readingandrighting yes that's what I think - dehydration plus mask wearing isn't helping.

I've also started taking flaxseed oil to help.

Have you changed your whole routine or just added Dermatica?

TracyTomatoes · 01/01/2021 20:13

I think most things are meant to only have a meaningful impact on your skin after about six weeks... and retinol / Tret is definitely meant to be a long game of months not weeks.

I think sadly you need to keep going with it to assess the impact properly.

Readingandrighting · 01/01/2021 20:13

@MilkshakeandFries

Well I've pared back my routine as my skin was getting tight and dry from Dermatica, so it's just Dermatica and Cicaplast to tackle the dryness. Then SPF by day...

I used to take flaxseed oil as it's good for digestion but I'll start taking it again, thanks.

Did the dr not progress you to oral antibiotics when the topical didn’t cure you?.

I suffered 27-41. Eventually I had to go to dermatology.

TableNiner · 01/01/2021 23:11

I would say it took over a year of using Tret to see a genuine improvement and to lose all the downsides. It's definitely a long game. They say it's a long game but often mention one or two skin cycles (six weeks each) which wasn't anywhere long enough for me. It would probably help if you could increase your Tret strength, I have 0.1.

Readingandrighting · 01/01/2021 23:21

Thanks.

Yeah perhaps I'll get in touch with Dermatica and let them know. The second lot is in the post so it'll be Month 3 before they can adapt the dosage. I also need to ditch the booze. I've had a good run at it over Christmas!

@TracyTomatoes

Thanks for you post. For some reason, I didn’t notice it before, sorry. Mmmm the long game with tret. The thing is my tret prescription is very weak (0.025%) and I have a much higher dosage of clindaymcin (antibiotic) and niacinamide so I thought the antibiotic would have cleared up the spots.

It’s upsetting how awful my skin looks considering I used to be blessed with skin. When everyone else my age had spots, I had clear skin & now that their skin is clear, I have spots — & lots of them. They seem to take a very long time to heal too. I’ve made a GP appointment but they’re understandably overwhelmed right now so it’ll be a couple of weeks at least before I see them.
