Right...I'm overhauling my wardrobe - fancy joining me (and we can help each other to find our new style)?

Morning folks!

So, new year and all that...I've realised that I have this huge excess of clothes that are beautiful, but I don't wear them, or were bought to try to pull together a certain kind or style, and I've realised I actually don't really like them. I really want to sell a heap of stuff, so recommendations as to where I could do that would be grand.

Does anyone fancy joining me for a thread to help overhaul/restyle their wardrobes?

A bit about me - I'm in my mid-30s, have a baby and a toddler, and too many clothes that don't work for my lifestyle. I've have this yearning to simplify my style (go more capsule-esque), but also seem to get pulled back towards vintage, dramatic, colourful, heavily patterned pieces. Sort of 'arty'.

Started thinking last night, do I want my clothes to wear me? And I'm not sure I want to look like I have a crazy shopping habit. I'd like my personality to be the focus, but without totally compromising my style, ha! I'm petite and very now and then feel like getting rid of (almost) everything and going for an Audrey Hepburn style look (DEFINITELY not what my wardrobe is like at the moment!). I guess I'm aiming for 'effortlessly groomed' and definitely stylish (but not necessarily 'fashionable'). I absolutely need some plainer pieces in my wardrobe (ideally that aren't crazily expensive). In a dream world, I'd like to mix my vintage pieces with more modern cuts for a 2021 look, and I'd love some advice as to where I might by high-quality items second hand.

I'm working so can't always respond immediately, but will always get back to the thread when I can! :-)

A (premature) Happy New Year to you all - please come and join me!

So disappointing when you buy new shoes/ boots in the same brand that you love @Parbor and they are uncomfortable! I usually love Fitflop sandals but can't get on with their shoes at all Sad

@waltzingparrot I am aiming for a capsule wardrobe but realistically I wear anything that I can fit in/ doesn't matter if the DC ruin it for now Confused

Hi ladies I started doing something similar last year but its on hold as I'm currently pregnant so nothing fits! I found this website useful, she is a mother of three but explains a lot of the basics to making ensure your wardrobe all works together well www.puttingmetogether.com/wardrobe-from-scratch-series/

So my stitchfix box finally turned up (had to be redirected in the end) and... I've mixed feelings about it. They sent a midi shirt dress - like the shape but emphasises my tiny boobs a bit too much - a striped jumper, like the colours but the cream is next to my face so washes me out a bit - a pink soft jumper, lovely colour but very shapeless - a blue ribbed batwing which I love the colour but just not sure about the style - and a black bardot lace trim top which I think I like. Not sure what if anything I'll keep. But then I can take 15 things into a changing room quite frequently and find none of it fits properly, so I'm not sure what I was expecting...

I chose myself a jumper dress from uniqlo which I think I really like (pictured). It's a bit loose fitting but perfect for today - it's snowing!

I'm a bit late to the party but can I join? I have tried something like this every year for the past 2 or 3 years and my style is certainly improving but I do have a habit of pulling out the same leggings and t-shirts everyday because of toddler DS. I don't like wearing my nice stuff as it tends to get ruined by paints and playdough! But I hate looking scruffy all the time. I also need to sort out my hair. It's got incredibly long over the last year but where my post-partum hair loss has grown back I have a mullet growing through my longer hair so if I tie it up I get crazy Einstein hair! Contemplating cutting it off to a long bob when I can but it's really thin and straight and all the styles I like are for thick wavy hair.

I have found the book 'The Curated Closet' by Anuschka Rees is amazing for finding out your personal style. She give no lists like '3 grey cardigans' but teaches you how to find what you need by creating mood boards. I love a pinterest inspiration board! There's also a section on working out the quality of garments because I find some stuff from primark has lasted longer and looked better than some of the more expensive stuff but other stuff falls apart in 1 wash.

I was interested to hear about the styling boxes. I keep thinking I should try them but have seen reviews online where people say they don't quite get their style and I would be annoyed if they were charging full price for stuff that's in the sale.

Hi all, I'm a bit late but can I join in? I've enjoyed reading about everyone else's situations!

I e just turned 40, have a toddler and live in London. My life is drastically different now than it was at the end of 2018. My wardrobe does NOT reflect that. I used to work in a smart/casual work place, which erred towards smart, so it was all pencil skirts and blouses. DH and I used to go out a lot; three or four nights a week. We used to travel a lot too, doing hiking and backpacking so I had a whole setup of fast-drying cargo pants and sports bras. Then I got pregnant, had a baby and lockdown happened - I now go to the office 1-2 times a week. I have a (modest) walk-in wardrobe and I'm using a single shelf at the moment. Pulled out some stuff which hasn't seen the light of day in ages and found moth holes Sad so I need a real overhaul. I also like the idea of a capsule-ish wardrobe.

Like OP, I'm always very attracted to big, bold prints and whenever I look at a navy jumper or cream trousers I always feel a bit sad. So I need to learn

Pigtailsandall · 16/01/2021 11:52

Oops, pressed send too fast...

I need to learn to match stuff better and get some neutral pieces to go with my favourite print stuff. And pack away stuff not currently use away from the moths!!

Hi, I have been doing this. I used a combination of sites.

Kettlewell color quiz to figure out my season
Your Color Style- doesn't do seasons as much but gives the colours for someone (e.g.) soft, warm and medium contrast in appearance. I recommend the guides they sell (c30 quid) as they go into neutrals, blushing colours, power colours, healing colours etc. and what happens when you combine e.g. power plus blushing colours=serious but approachable.
Kibbe style analysis-I am gamine, there are guides for what each type could look for which I find helpful and highlight my key issue- I veer too much towards comfort in my dressing when actually I want to feel fun and playful.

I do have a list but not sure what next. I own versions of some items on the list. Maybe I need to practise combinations. I also need to lose weight tbh as some lovely clothes don't fit.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 19/01/2021 12:48

Am I too late to join? Spent 8 hours yesterday clearing and organising. It's quite sobering to find a case full of clothes that you packed away until you could fit into them. I tried them all. Some i did fit into and I've kept some. Others were close so their final execution/reprieve date is easter. If they don't fit then they're gone. Wardrobe and drawers look better. Still have too much but baby steps.
