Oily hair shampoo recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for oily hair? I have oily roots and dry ends and am happy to pay for premium products, it seems to me that there used to be quite a few products around for oily hair but now everything seems to be aimed at dry or coloured hair. The cheaper shampoos for oily hair (L'Oréal clay shampoo I'm looking at you) tend to leave my hair lank and greasy even quicker than normal.

Please don't bother to comment if you're going to tell me to wash my hair less frequently and it will get used to it Hmm. I know how to handle my hair, I push it out to 2 days despite it feeling horrible and greasy on the second. What I'm looking for is something that can clear the 2 days of grease and dry shampoo effectively.

There's a tresemme for normal to greasy hair - think its the Cleanse one.

Theres also a head a shoulders one for greasy hair

I know this says for coloured hair but it really helps my fine lank highlighted hair. www.amazon.co.uk/Pureology-Shampoo-Colour-Treated-Lightweight-266ml/dp/B089165CCW?th=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I use wella elements conditioner on the lengths and ends but the shampoo causes my patch of Seborrhoeic dermatitis to flare up after a few days.
The other favourite and sometimes I wash with it first and double wash with the pureology is Tresemme www.boots.com/tresemme-pro-collection-collagen-fullness-shampoo-400ml-10252947

The pureology makes my hair feel much better though and it is really shiny. I do wash my hair every day though and still can’t push to two days unless I am at deaths door or at a festival.

I use Philip Kingsley moisturise balancing shampoo and it’s great on my greasy hair. Pureology hydrate sheer was good too (sheer- not their standard hydrate, though lovely made my hair very greasy.)

Surprisingly bumble and bumble thickening was quite good for grease control, which was a bonus I wasn’t expecting.

I’ve not had the best experience with high street shampoo but like OGX coconut one.

In my experience shampoos aimed at greasy hair make it worse, I find they strip too much and my scalp makes more oil. I’ve found shampoos labelled as moisturising work better- I guess it doesn’t strip as much so less oil made? I also think this hair training is nonsense- I’ve tried on my many occasions, including in lockdown. Never worked! Mine needs to be washed every 2 days with dry shampoo in between.

Hope you find the right shampoo, so hard to find a good one! X

I've got greasy roots but dry frizzy hair. I find that clear shampoos work best (where the product is transparent). I like Aussie Man - Keep it Clean, can be found in tesco, also like Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing too and I'm about to get Aveda Brilliant as the Moisture Balancing will soon be empty.

Another vote for Philip kingsley products. I have greasy scalp, and thick hair that goes lank quickly, and I can now wear my hair down for 2-3 days in a row rather than 1!!
I use the volumising one, along with the polishing serum.

Living proof perfect hair day shampoo. I didn't get in with all their products but the shampoo is fantastic - gets my fine greasy hair properly clean and lovely and full

Panpig · 30/12/2020 22:15

I've started using the faith in nature lemon shampoo and conditioner, and it is great for my fine, oily hair.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/12/2020 22:20

I suffer this issue and have tried pretty much everything

Bumble & Bumble Seaweed

Brilliant but too expensive

Lomè Paris

Smells Gorgeous but, also expensive and only as good as

Herbal Essences Mint And Strawberry

Worked well for a while but seemed to wear off

Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two

Nope.

Currently going good on Loreal Clay but I have used it before and the effect wore off.

Still on the apparently futile quest.

AboutACat · 30/12/2020 22:25

You’ll laugh but I used this by accident recently, and my hair feels great after it. My hair won’t stretch to a second day, but can leave it down in day two with a hair and or half-pony. Great shine too.

Also from Amazon and my local chemist stocks it.

dayslikethese1 · 30/12/2020 22:39

I have really greasy fine hair and weirdly I find Head and Shoulders best even though I don't have any scalp or dandruff issues. I agree with the poster above who said that any shampoos aimed at greasy hair just make it worse, I've found that too.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/12/2020 23:06

Oh and I also tried the Green Redken one

It was shit.

The purple one for dyed hair very good though.

chocolatespiders · 30/12/2020 23:09

The citrus head and shoulders.

I would love to say oh so Juicy from lush but they have discontinued it.

ouchmyfeet · 31/12/2020 00:15

Thanks everyone, got a few new ones to try there. I use the living proof dry shampoo but didn't get on with the proper shampoo. No luck with Paul Mitchell either but I'll give some of the others mentioned a try

I have hair that gets oily quickly and the best shampoo I have tried is a solid shampoo bar from ethique

ethique.co.uk/products/st-clements-shampoo-for-oily-hair

Leaves my hair really soft and it definitely gets oily less quickly. I've tried other solid shampoos and found they left my hair a bit dull and lank but this one is great and much better than any liquid shampoo I've tried (and I've tried a lot!)

Rollergirl11 · 31/12/2020 09:33

I have this problem too. I have fine (but quite a lot of it), highlighted hair. I stretch to washing every other day but have to use dry shampoo on 2nd day and sometimes even on the day I’ve washed. It’s mainly the temples and the hair around my face that look greasy quickly. The rest of my hair generally looks in quite good condition and is very shiny. I swim a lot too so you’d think the chlorine would dry my hair out rather then it be greasy. After I get my hair highlighted it clears the issue for a few months but then it’s back to looking greasy again the day after washing.

This is only something that has started as I have got older, which is odd as I thought your hair became drier with age, not oilier.

I think I’m going to try the Philip Kingsley moisturing as a few people have suggested that.
