Kids clothes - thick leggings for tall skinny girls

Eldest DC (10) grows like a weed, but only up not out. She basically lives in leggings with baggy tops but it seems like they're always halfway up her shins and never reach her ankles. She's nearly my height now but obviously a completely different shape. No hips and a tiny frame, just tall for her age.

Where can I buy longer length nice quality leggings for her? I can't buy women's leggings as she has no hips, she's tried on some of her size 4-6 grandma's clothes (she's the same height as her!) and they were too big.

It's always been a struggle finding nice clothes that fit her and now she's in the tween years she cares even more about clothes, how they look/fit etc. Can anyone help?

Next. My daughter is tall for her age too and they are nice and thick available in longer lengths.

H&M. My 2 DDs have the same issue and the youngest is the same age as yours. You are better looking in store because the website doesn’t seem to detail the specifics of the item. DD has some that are thick with a fleecy lining but the ones I brought November time were thinner and more suited for the spring. They all seem to fit tall and skinny shapes though.

You could also check out top shop, their leggings come up very skinny but they mostly seem to be thinner fabric.

@twistedkaleidoscope Ah, Next. God I hate buying online from them! I always seem to end up with some sort of subscription to them. But if their leggings are good then needs must. Thank you!

@mmmmmchocolate unfortunately I can't go in store - I should have mentioned that we're in Tier 4 at the moment. And I know what you mean, we always seem to end up with the thin H&M leggings which DD won't wear. Might be worth buying a selection from them just to see which ones are thick I suppose. Thank you.

@ScrambledSmegs

Don't set up an account just check out as a guest then you don't subscribe to "free delivery for a year" or whatever else they're doing!

I fell into that trap once! X

Good tip! Thank you @Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst!

My friend buys leggings from here and I've also had some Sainsbury's TU ones which are velour so much thicker

H&M have fleece lined ones. I fine they can be good for skinny girls. Not sure if they do them above age 10 though. They call them leggings with brushed inside.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/12/2020 12:39

DD is too tall for the H&M age 10 ones now sadly. Her waist and hips are very narrow so quite often the thicker jersey leggings are too big for her as well (think it's because they're not as stretchy?).

Sadly the age 12-13 M&S ones I bought recently are both too big and too short. I see Next does leggings in longer lengths so I'll try them. Thanks all.

Boden standard girls leggings are good, they are nice and thick and wash brilliantly.

DD lives in H&M and Hollister. She has a microscopic waist, but fairly rounded hips/bum, so can cope with a bit of sag around the waist, so maybe wouldn’t work for your DD?

She has 4 pairs of these fleece lined H&M leggings. They are a little loose, but seem to stay up. Hollister go down to XXS so might be worth a try?

@TheSockMonster Hollister? I've never thought of them, always thought they were expensive but maybe not. Are they ok to buy online from?

Thank you @MissRainbowBrite and @Tweetypietwo, I'll have a look at those too.

Similar prices to Boden and the line. The fabrics tend to be thick and soft and wash well and they have lots of oversized hoodies and loungewear etc, which is pretty much all DD wears!

That said, I’ve just looked back at recent photos of DD and her leggings all end many inches above her ankles. She wears them with black socks and/or boots so not too obvious. In the summer she wears white trainer socks and trainers and the gap looks intentional!

TheSockMonster · 30/12/2020 13:48

Fine to buy online from Hollister. They have a good return policy, although they do deduct the cost of return shipping if you can’t drop them back into a store.

LlamaofDrama · 30/12/2020 13:49

My DD is similar, age 10, my height with longer legs and no width. We got her some from JD Sports or Sports Direct but that was September so she's outgrown them now... her school skirts are age 16 and well above the knee!

Mayvis · 30/12/2020 13:54

We had some success with River Island ones, but baggy around the waist but not falling down. Best fit is with USA Pro but they’re only sportswear leggings.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 30/12/2020 13:54

Gap, specifically the French terry leggings.

lilylongjohn · 30/12/2020 14:47

Next long leggings. They are squat proof (as my dd tells me)

Oly4 · 30/12/2020 21:51

Boden cosy leggings.. so warm and cosy
