Silk hair turbans

Has anybody used those silk hair wrap/turbans at night? Did they help? I have shoulder length curly hair which can get dry frizzy and knotty. Since pregnancy I have also been sweating more at night which also seems to be not helping. I am using leave in conditioners at the moment but wondered if this would help as well.

The actual turbans you can buy I haven't tried as I have a rather large head. However I do wrap a satin scarf around my head overnight and it works wonders.

Thanks that's good to know

You could try a silk pillowcase?

becca3210 · 30/12/2020 12:08

Yes good idea. A few different options I guess! Be good to hear what has worked for people with similar hair

I have a silk bonnet!

I wake up with a less wrinkled face so think it's good for my skin rather than hair.

I have a satin bonnet that I bought from beautifully biracial which is fab. It stays on really well. I don't always wear it though because it can be irritating. I think I will invest in a silk pillowcase next.

I have a silk turban. It was pricey but a pandemic treat. I have exceptionally dry hair. I use elasticizer extreme, and then either Philip Kingsley or Aveda dry repair shampoos and conditioners. I also use a hair oil of some sort, my current favourite is Egyptian Magic balm. During the pandemic I've left my hair to dry naturally. So, I do all of this but I still find i get a little frizz. I find wearing the turban awkward so I don't do it nightly, only on the days I wash my hair and the next day. It really relaxes my hair!

My niece has had great results with a silk pillowcase - her crazy curls look so much more relaxed - I only found out about the pillowcase as I asked why her hair looked so good. She is only 4 mind so wouldn’t tolerate a wrap.

Thanks everyone think may start with a pillowcase and see how I get on. Thanks also for the product recommendations

I tried a silk pillowcase for menopause sweats and very dry curly hair. For me it didn’t make a jot of difference for either. It felt very nice and cooling to lie on initially but that was as good as it got for me.

Etsy has lots of pure silk hair bonnets on sale around £20.

Out of interest, OP, do you follow the Curly Girl Method? Since dropping products with sulphates, silicones, drying alcohols and parabens, my hair is much less frizzy overall.

Oils, silicones etc., are terrible for curly hair. It just smothers the hair so it can't soak up any moisture which it so desperately needs, because curly hair is so dry.

It's been great for me and DS. Especially DS who is mixed race with much tighter curls than mine. Here's his little curly top after his most recent wash and dry.

Sorry, I tell a lie, I've just spotted he's sat in his high chair in that photo which means that was when I was doing a refresh the following morning, so that was his hair after a full nights sleep and a quick refresh with a conditioner bar and water.

I'm using a Silke silk bonnet and a silk pillowcase. Don't know if they're really making a difference but they feel lovely! I've also started the wash with conditioner and leave in conditioner elements of Curly Girl method and am seeing far less frizz.
