Please help me with what the hell to do with my thin hair!

I'm in tier 4 so have a while to mull over what to do with my hair once hairdressers are allowed to reopen, and need all the help and advice I can get!

I have just over shoulder length hair which is fairly thin and has a natural very loose wave to it. The under layers always wave well and the top is nearly straight ish. I've had it short before because it makes it feel a little thicker, but at the moment its flat, lifeless and dull.

I need to get it properly cut in a way that's fairly low maintenance, I usually let my hair air dry (which it does very quickly as it's so thin) and rarely use heat on it and so would avoid any cut that required daily heat styling.

For reference I'm short, curvy and have a round face shape. Hair and eyes are both brown.

Please stylish women of Mumsnet, what can i do? What do you do to your thin hair? Is there hope?!

I have fine hair and It’s alway best short. A haircut like this where there’s a bit of body, and you can sweep the fringe sideway might work - here?

Sorry for crap typing!

Mid length cut and if you can invest in a big brush blow dryer. It smooths fine hair and gives me lots of volume. I also just discovered a product called Wow colour root coverup which when I tie my hair up I put this into my hairline and it gives the appearance of a perfect full hairline. I have PCOS plus meds that thin my hair and especially at the front. I also switched to a centre parting with my new mid length cut and it looks great.

I have always played with the idea of going very short, but unfortunately my family suffers from a genetic disappearance of a defined jawline, and we all look a little like turkeys 😂

I think a heated dry brush might be a good way to go, and some layers too maybe? It's just so annoying to wake up and look at my same rubbish hair everyday!

Thank you ladies for your help! ☺️

Hello hair (and jawline) twin!

Lob or bob, not too many layers. Texturising spray or dry shampoo when you want to add some volume.

This is what I got and the balayage blonde colour which I think helps.

I have fine thin awful hair and recently bought a revlon one step (air styledr) and now have glossy swishy locks. My hair is mid length but it works on chin length Bob too.

As for the cut I think the trick is a blunt cut all one length no layers of any kind. Colour can help thicken it too but at the moment I'm colour free.

I have fine hair with a wave and have always had it short - at my hairline at the back short, otherwise it has the dull, lifeless problem you describe. Plus layers.

When I grow it, it has a bit of a wave, when it is short it is really curly and I can get a lot of body out of it.

I'd suggest a lot shorter, SLS and silicone free products and see how much wave and body you can get out of it.

And my idea of styling my hair is scrunching gel through it to hold the curl then letting it dry in the car.

I have found my hair got thinner as I got older . It was always thick and down to the base of my spine so quite upsetting to suddenly find it was so thin and lank .
I have a weave now . Most people have two or three but I just have one .
It's just enough time thicken my hair up and make it look really healthy .
It was expensive ( £400 ) but I've had it in 2 years now and my hair has actually naturally thickened back up some on that time too .

Thank you all so much! The general consensus seems to be to go shorter which I agree with, with a hot brush for volume and sulphate free shampoos. here's hoping I can fall in love with my hair again!
