Which brand is best for which beauty product?

So recently I’ve learnt:

Elemis is best for moisturiser
Dermalogica is best for face wash
Charlotte Tilbury is best for Mascara

Are there any others that everyone knows about that I don’t?

Surely it’s entirely subjective?

AliceinBunniland · 26/12/2020 15:09

I don't think it's a known thing that dermalogica do the best face wash and CT sells the best mascara tbh. As PP said, it is entirely subjective and with skincare it depends on your skin type and needs too.

If you just want to know what others like from various brands -

Loose powder - laura Mercier
Mascara - Dior and benefit or YSL (but many cheaper brands do good mascaras)
Bronzer (for countering) - benefit Hoola
Blusher - benefit or Nars
Lip balm - Elizabeth Arden (8 hour)
Eyeshadow - urban decay or Mac
Lipstick - Mac or Charlotte tilbury

You have just learnt what is best for you, not for everybody.

My moisturiser would be Avene, my mascara would be Clinique, my face wash is Cereve etc

HotSince63 · 26/12/2020 15:20

Dermalogica strips my skin something terrible!

Madbengalmum · 26/12/2020 15:20

Purely subjective surely?
Elemis isnt my favourite moisturiser.

Briannaoftarth83 · 26/12/2020 15:27

Like others have said I don't think any brands are known for the best "insert product"

Some are known for a cult type product (like double wear by EL) but it's really subjective as to what you find works best for your skin.

Or are you looking more for peoples ride or die products? If so mine are:

Avene for skin (but I suffer with eczema so I'm limited in what I can use)
EL for foundation (double wear)
Urban decay for mascara (promiscuous perhaps? Can't remember)
Benefit for blush/bronzer - I have a palette that I can't live without

I was told that Charlotte Tilbury started off making mascara and then expanded out her range, but mascara is what she does best. Similar for the other brands.

I appreciate that doesn’t mean everyone would like Charlotte Tilbury’s mascara but I was looking for other examples of this as thought it would be a good starting point for starting a skincare routine and wearing makeup.

Mascara could be what CT does best (still a matter of opinion) but that's different from her mascara being the best out there!

Some of us have shared some of our favourites above though OP

I agree with other posters that it's purely subjective. In my experience when a brand is 'known for a specific product it's nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
If you are after good quality products for your skin type, Beauty Pie might be a good place to start as you can filter products based on your personal skin concerns/needs.

LadyEloise · 26/12/2020 20:42

Chanel le Volume mascara is brilliant.

MabelMoo23 · 26/12/2020 20:48

Definitely subjective

DL Doublewear is a cult foundation but I can’t bear it

I use Hourglass for mascara

MabelMoo23 · 26/12/2020 20:48

DL??? That should EL!!!!

Scumble · 26/12/2020 20:50

Oh no - Lancome Monsieur Big or Tom Ford Badass is the best mascara.

For me.

Gleps · 27/12/2020 08:05

Thanks everyone, I’ll check out beauty pie and some of your other suggestions.
