L’Oréal Steampod, less damaging than GHD’s?

Does anyone have a L’Oréal Steampod? I’m thinking of buying one purely for the reason that GHD’s wreck my fine, curly hair. I only straighten my hair 3-4 times a year now as it’s just too damaging more frequently with my GHDs (older ones, no temp control) The Steampod is eye watering yet expensive though so I’m wondering whether anyone has found their hair in better condition after long term use of it vs GHDs? I’d have thought steam would be more damaging tbh Blush

I've got the steampod. I've only had it for a few weeks so I can't really comment on how much it's damaged my hair but when I use it my hair is so much silkier and so so shiny! It really helps with frizz too. When I used my GHD's my hair would be fine until I went outside, then it's go really frizzy. With the steampod it stays as it was when I styled it.

Ooo I've been tempted with the idea of a steampod too. They claim to cause less damage but not sure exactly how that's the case. I like the sound of the shine and silkiness.
Does they have a temp control?

I have had one sat in the cupboard for ages. It's just such a faff to setup and use that I don't bother.

Reasonable results when I did use it, but not noticeably better than my original GHDs which I have returned to.

I've had the Steampod 3 for nearly a year. Definitely less damage than ceramic straighteners and hair stays straight for longer. It's no problem setting up in the latest version you just have to put distilled water in the container and clip in.

3 temperatures to choose 180c, 200c and 220c.

A huge faff. Results were nice enough, hair was silky but it's such a cumbersome piece of kit to maneuver that it mainly lived in a cupboard before being sold.

My hair is curly to the roots and the Steampod had trouble getting right into the roots so I had to finish with irons. That was the final nail in it's coffin.

I have posted on here about the steam pod before. My daughter (thick curly hair) and I are big fans. First recommended to me and used by hairdresser in Cyprus when it was so humid that my hair resembled Monica in Friends in the tropics! Much better than GHDs in humid or wet conditions and in my view don’t dry out hair like GHDS and have better hold. I don’t find it onerous to set up. You put water in the little tank and press button to put it on and a minute later it’s hot and bob’s your uncle! I would hope they might be reduced in January sales if you hang on. I think I have bought mine in past from Look Fantastic who were good. I remember the wire from the first one frayed and they replaced the steam pod immediately no hassle. The replacement has asked for years.

I had the version 2 for the last 6 years and just recently bought the version 3. The V2 was definitely a bit cumbersome because the water pod was separate to the straightener itself but obviously still attached so it made it awkward to use without knocking the water pod over every so often.
V3 now has the water tank integrated in the straightener and it is so much easier to use in my opinion.
I think it’s definitely a lot less damaging and drying to my hair than my GHDs are, which have been languishing in a drawer for years now. Much much prefer the steampod. You do need to use distilled water though but it’s v cheap and easy enough to get from places like Halfords, possibly even Tesco.

Thanks guys! I’ll hold out and see if I can get V.3 in the Jan sales! Smile

Does the distilled water make a difference to what the hair turns out like or just to how long it lasts and performs well?

I think it's more to do with limescale build up if you don't use distilled but I may be wrong....

Try avedas smooth control glossing straightener, a tube lasts me about 5 years because you use a tiny amount each time but it really works.

You might get a sample size on eBay if you only straighten sporadically.

@SweetShopSurprise I have one and really like it, I have the older version so it has the water container separately but i don’t find it too much of a faff, it leaves my hair smooth and shiny and doesn’t give it the dry feel that GHDs do. I only straighten my hair maybe once a week as mostly wash and leave to air dry, so I don’t have any heat damage, but this does feel a bit more gentle. It’s got temperature control too so I use the lowest setting.

@AliciafromGalicia the distilled water is to avoid limescale build up, which would clog the straighteners up and stop them from working.
