Childhood aside, which decade do you think you age fastest in?

I swear everything has accelerated since I turned 40, five years ago.

Is this par for the course and does it just carry on at this pace?!

Nothing too bad so far at 48, it seems slow and steady. I'm in deep peri-meno so ask me in five years. Health-wise I feel fine, looks-wise, my hair is pretty much all silver now, but I still think I look ace, and probably always will!

I'm not too concerned about aging, it happens, no point getting distressed about it.

And it's not downhill, I keep seeing posts on S&B with posters asking if they're 'too old' to wear or do something. I think that's mad. You're never too old to do anything, as long as it's within your physical capabilities, and you want to, then just bloody do it!

I still feel entirely vital and attractive. My father is nearly 80 and still climbs, travels globally, does yoga, stands on his head! My mother dances and dyes her hair vivid shades and dresses up in all kinds of fancy. My oldest sister is 59, has a colour of the week, and matches her nails, makeup and clothes, and deadlifts like a fucker!

I see so much negativity about aging on this board, I feel much more attractive and brilliant than I felt as a young woman, I feel powerful.

Let's stop all this bollockry. Yes, aging can be a pain, and yes, we're not as fecundly rounded and plumped and glowing, but let's be honest, I bet all the most stylish women you know are the older ones, there's so much to be said for older women.

I have regular chats with my other sister's MIL, who was 'Miss Belize' i(Queen of the Islands!) in her youth. She has so much wisdom and so many tales to impart.

Older women are beautiful and resourceful and fucking brilliant.

Shall we stop worrying about the minutiae of aging and celebrate ourselves?

Spied · 20/12/2020 16:26

From almost my 40th Birthday things have declined. Alarmingly actually

SenorFrog · 20/12/2020 16:27

I'm 53 and I've changed so much since I turned 50. I thought I was ageing 40-50 but 50's I much quicker, I'm turning into an old lady.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/12/2020 16:28

50’s. My moth had droooped and my skin looks grey.

For years and years l looked 10 years younger than my age. Now I’m not sure. I don’t have any wrinkles though,,,,

Floisme · 20/12/2020 16:49

Yes absolutely but I don't believe in denying ageing either. It's real.

RunnerDown · 20/12/2020 16:49

50 to 60 definitely. In my forties I think I could have said that I still looked “ young” when I made a bit of an effort. Don’t think there’s anything I could do now. Neck is scraggy and I have very little subcutaneous fat in my face so it all droops a bit. Liberating in a way cos although I still take care of myself my expectations are low for good results .
I think physically and mentally many people deteriorate a lot when they get into their eighties

1forAll74 · 20/12/2020 17:02

70's. I have always been looking quite reasonable for my age, decent skin etc, But for the last couple of years, I have had horrible tinnitus, which keeps me awake at night, with no proper sleep, so always look tired everyday now.

piscis · 20/12/2020 17:17

I am 42, I started to feel I am ageing faster a few months ago, my skin is less firm (I've got greys since in my twenties, but that's not an issue as it is easy to sort!). I also have a toddler which doesn't help, I do not sleep as much as I need to and don't have the time to take care of myself properly.

BlueBerryBiscuit · 20/12/2020 18:18

Herselfindoors you can get anti fog wipes or spray from the opticians, got some for my dc and it's amazing and actually works all day.

Zippy3 · 20/12/2020 18:24

Post menopause.

pinkhousesarebest · 20/12/2020 18:39
  1. I had my dc at 39 and 41 and I still looked - and believed myself to be - young. A year later, I had aged so much. Not even wrinkles - I just looked much older.
SpeckledyHen · 20/12/2020 18:48

I had always looked young for my age , freckles and fringe , until 60+ when the neck went :(

CrotchBurn · 20/12/2020 18:50

I think it's about self perception. Very late 20s was bad for me because I began shifting out of that fresh teenage sparkly eyed thing and into looking like....well, a woman rather than a girl. So maybe around 29 I began feeling like I was rapidly deteriorating. Also in my family people go grey very early and I started to too. Now I feel fine though. So to me it's really a psychological thing.

GeorgeMichaelsEspadrille · 20/12/2020 19:15

@shrikeattack your family sound awesome!!

XingMing · 20/12/2020 19:53

64 now, and the last year has seen me crumble. It had to happen of course, but the turkey neck....

laudemio · 20/12/2020 20:26

The 2020s. The era of covid has aged me massively, bad hair and no sparkle.

ShrikeAttack · 20/12/2020 20:42

Here's my 59 year-old sis

ShrikeAttack · 20/12/2020 20:49

And my 78 year-old dad

moglovesmincepies · 20/12/2020 20:52

30s. Due to stress. Dh had accident couldn't work for 6 months. Dd had lots of trauma. I had all the mental load and still do now (just turned 40). I prioritised mental health - wanted chocolate didn't deny myself or family- and now am 4 stone over weight, at the start of peri menopause, possibly fibromyalgia from all the stress and just can't be arsed any more. Need to sort myself out. Not sure how.

whereisthejoy · 20/12/2020 20:53

@Mustardbay GrinGrinGrin

whereisthejoy · 20/12/2020 20:56

@ShrikeAttack hear hear!

Seventytwo · 20/12/2020 21:01

@ShrikeAttack - what a bloody great post 👏 You and your family sound amazing!

Tehmina23 · 20/12/2020 21:27

I feel like 2020 has had a bad effect. Especially because I'm now nearly 13 stone plus I've not been bothering with a night time routine & both those things show in my face.

I need to lose weight for a start, wear night cream & sleep properly.

shinynewapple2020 · 20/12/2020 22:17

For me it's definitely been my 50s

20s I looked like a teenager
30s I would have passed for 20s until I had DS at 37
40s started looking my age as the decade went on
50s, the menopause, being a 'sandwich' and caring for others but not myself .... I definitely look my age now .

AnyFucker · 20/12/2020 22:22

My 50's for sure

I am post menopause now and although the body is holding up well, the face and hair is not.
