Blonde to dark?

sammysam · 23/10/2007 16:48

Is it a good idea?
I have fairly fair hair but still obvious roots in my highlighted hair.
Will i regret such a drastic change? Had it highlighted for 10 years or so.

How do you know how dark to go?

Oh help! suggestions please!

Go for it girl. I went from very blonde to chocolate in one go and absolutely love it. Am really mousey colour, but have been bleached blonde / highlighted etc etc over the years.
Now its a really dark rich chocolate and I wouldn't go back. I'm blue eyed by the way.
My advice don't try yourself, go to a good hairdresser and do it. Bet you'll love the results..... be prepared though, it can come as quite a shock but I've not had any second thoughts at all.

be careful, you could end up either with green hair, or looking like morticia adams
go to hairdressers, she will know which shade to go for

I'm naturally red, have been blonde for years but did have a foray into chocolate brown (and am now going back to red! ) I loved it, but found I needed to wear a lot more makeup to avoid looking washed out.

Definitely go to the hairdressers for such a big change!

Didn't feel really brave at the time, but after thats what lots of people said. the hairdresser did say some people are so shocked if they make a dramatic change that they don't like it.
I've always felt that with hair its so easy to grow it, cut it, doesn't really matter ( unless of course you are unwell then thats different) also know that for some people they would never consider changing their hair..... but for me, well "it'll grow"

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 23/10/2007 17:52

I definitely go with the "it will grow" motto

Naturally auburn!

Last year after having DD I went chocolate brown. I have blue eyes and they really reallystood out, and with a pinky blusher my skin looked amazing. But, I did have to buy new makeup and clothes to go with the new colour and it took some getting used to (just seeing me in the mirror the first few mornings after....)

When my roots started growing (and because they were so much lighter and a weaker colour) it was not a good look. In the end, I grew out the chocolate brown totally and went back to my natural colour (an ashy brown - not a beautiful colour like the rich chocolate by any stretch) but with some ashy dark blonde highlights I'm happier with my hair then I've been for a long time (and the shine is amazing!)

You'll also find you may want to wear different style clothes so be prepared for some shopping! [yay!]

thanks everyone.

i agree with going to the hairdresser-ever since a rather awful experience when i was 16 (orange hair i had to dye 3 times in a day) i have and will never do it myself !!!

i have hazel eyes-would it not look as good?

i'm worried re the shock factor and that awful 'i hate my hair' feeling but i love all those colours!

also was wandering what the regrowth would look like?

having blonde hair has been such a big part of me.....but i fancy a change (and no dark roots.....but then is it too much of a change?

i also have fairly fair skin. so mibht it wash me out? saying that though some blondes drain me of colour as well.....oh what to do?
