Talk to me about Charity Shops...

I have had some amazing finds in charity shops over the years. Recently I have picked up some lovely jewelry. It got me thinking what are the stories behind the donations. Wondering what motivates people to donate some lovely stuff to charity shops.

Anyone got any insight to share?

Thanks @abstractzebra that's really helpful. I didn't know charity shops took some items for rags. I've been trying to find textile recycling locally (inspired by this post) and still no luck
Good to know on the bits charity shops don't need! Thanks so much and happy Christmas

Also old books we will take and get a bit of money for but check with your local shop as if they can't take as recycling, then old, dirty, tatty and out of date books are not really wanted.
Another no no for us is old biscuit and chocolate tins. We have absolutely no use for them. I had a donation a little while ago of 3 old tins and a used loo brush! Confused
Also, check if your local shop wants hangers. We don't take them as we use our own matching ones. It does make the shop look better.
After posting on here, I was just telling my daughter that one of the last things I did before our sudden lockdown was to price a vinyl record at £2 but it was signed! Never heard of the female singer and I'm quite good at music, so I thought it's unlikely to be worth anything.
The first thing I'm going to do when I go back is research it, just in case! Confused
