Hair curls what to do?

DD has beautiful curls in her hair. I alwa wanted hair like that but mine is dead straight.

Soooo I don't really know how to take care of it Confused please help me help her!

She does need a haircut (covid... we haven't been out much, I was pregnant) but still.... her hair gets tangled a lot. And her curls are beautiful sometimes and a mess of straightish combed hair other times.

I use coconut oil in the bottom half of her hair in the shower. Are there any tricks I should know? Any special brushes you recommend?

Thanks!

try not to wash her hair too often (once or twice a week)
dry her hair with an old tshirt, not a towel
wash with normal shampoo, and then smooth this lotion through it, brush through with a wide toothed comb. Don't brush it at all when it's not wet
blackhaircare.co.uk/collections/curlykids/products/curlykids-creamy-curl-defining-lotion-6oz
hope that helps a little!

Have a look at the curly girl method. No shampoos containing sulfates. Wash with an approved conditioner. Loads of threads on mumsnet about it and there’s also a book by Lorraine Massey.

Don’t brush it when it’s dry

Thanks for the replies Smile

Just wondering, she has her shower in the evening and then in the morning she wakes up with a small rat's nest of tangled hair. Will that improve with those products? Or is it just a need for hair cut?

I always wash my curly hair in the morning for that reason!

Some people I know put water in a spray bottle and spritz it in the morning, and detangle by hand, which might help. How long/thick is her hair?

Seconding the curly girl method - you can make it as complicated or as simple as you like. I use a sulfate free shampoo and a silicone free conditioner. It has transformed my hair!

For her age, I'd probably put her hair up in a plait for bed time, and maybe even get a silk/satin pillow case to minimise friction. Then even a silicone free leave in conditioner in the morning to gently comb through.

Is she sleeping on wet hair?

My youngest daughter had ringlets.

We only wash her hair once a week max.

Her hair air drys with conditioner in it.

When she has a shower she wears a little shower cap so only the ends get slightly damp and air dry quickly before bed.

We only use a special tangle tamer for curly hair to brush her hair.

We only brush her hair when it’s wet. Every morning and evening we use a conditioning spray liberally before it is brushed through and the curls are back in minutes

My daughter has very curly hair. Don’t brush it when it’s dry, comb Tim through with conditioner in the shower and then wet it with a spritz bottle in the morning if it needs another comb through,
