Measuring for a bra

DD badly needs some now bras but understandably, the bra fitting service in our local department store isn't operating.

Does anyone know how to properly calculate bra sizes please?

I've measured her on her bra band line and over her breasts but what do I do now to calculate the actual bra size that I need to order?

I did search the internet first but DD was so upset when I told her the size that I'd calculated, I said I'd check on here in case I'd got naff information from the web Wink

She can do her own measuring and use:
www.booborbust.com

Forget measuring.
Get the size you think she is, and try it on.
Can you just put two fingers between your boobs, under the band, is it tight. Too loose go down a size.
Cups.
Check if gaps, go down a cup size.
Boobs spilling over go up a size...
If it gaps at boobs go

I also recommend boob or bust. I went from a 36/38B to a 34DD and am so much more comfortable.

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 14/12/2020 13:17

Thank you for the recommendations. DD is going to follow the Boob or Bust instructions.

If she’s big enough then bravissimo is open and doing ‘hands off’ fittings.

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 14/12/2020 13:43

thanks Snowman but no, not big enough.

I read this with interest and have just fed my measurements into the Boob or Bust site. I can't believe I'm doing it right!

I have been wearing one of two sizes.

40D - comfortable to slightly loose

38D/DD - comfortable to slightly tight around the back and sides and the cups are about the right size in theory, but feel like they're too close together

The site thinks I'm a 34G!

I'm scared to try that size as it sounds so obviously wrong for me. If I do, it will be from somewhere like Primark so I haven't wasted too much money when it turns out it won't even go round me, as I'm convinced will happen.

Is there any brand that is particularly good with far-apart boobs?

Deffo BoobOrBust. I used to wear a 34b and always thought I had crap boobs. Used the BoB method and now wear a 30dd and frankly, they look way better.

thedevilinablackdress · 14/12/2020 17:25

That's standard Charity
I went from wearing a 34C to a 30DD

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 14/12/2020 17:36

The BoB pages are full of people who can't believe it, but if you can get a non-stretchy tape measure around you at 30 inches (for example), why would you buy a 34 or 36 bra with elastic and lycra? A DD cup simply means that each breast is 2.5 inches bigger than the band (5 inches overall). It's a pretty small cup size in the grand scheme.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/12/2020 17:56

BoB also advise wear the bra on the loosest hook. Bras do stretch a little over time so you can then pull it in a bit.

Cornertakenquickly · 16/12/2020 13:23

Thanks for the boob or bust recommendation I just went from wearing a 40DD to a 42HH. Ordered a bra of Amazon on Prime Wardrobe and it fits.

Charity 38DD is the same cup size as 36E or 34F, so not actually such a huge difference as it might seem.
You're better off ordering a load from a free return websites, so you can try various shapes and sizes. Try Brastop for example.
