I had botox for my laughter lines about beginning of October but it seems to have made very little difference , especially on my right eye. I went for the appointment 2 weeks after for a booster on that eyr but not much difference.
I think it made a difference at first in as much as i felt brighter and had more confidence ...a few friends commented that i looked" well" . However it is wearing off after 2 months which i am dissappinted with.
My dentist ( who i didnt go with this time) said it wont erase static lines which they are but i feel like i want to persevere to prevent further lines....is it a cumulative effect?
Amyone else ecperience this?

Yes, as I understand it Botox can be used preventatively. So by using it, you are stopping those wrinkles from forming.

That said, I think laughter lines are nice. It’s the frowny ones I’m unhappy with, not the twinkly ones

MacbookHo · 13/12/2020 14:20

It makes the lines at the sides of your eyes slightly better, but (IME) it seems to give you more directly underneath your eyes.

It’s brilliant for forehead wrinkles and between your eyes. But I’ve never found it did THAT much for laughter lines.

OctaviaOrange · 13/12/2020 14:22

I don't think it's super effective where you're having it. It's great for the forehead but less so elsewhere

Beautiful3 · 13/12/2020 14:37

Botox, stops new lines forming. However filler is needed to fill in existing lines. My mother had fillers.

WorraLiberty · 13/12/2020 14:40

Yes, unfortunately preventative Botox is a thing amongst people as young as 21.

There was a documentary about it a couple of months ago.

Experts were worried about muscle wastage when the 20 somethings get older.

This makes sense as I feel like the wrinkles on foreheads and between brows are from muscle movement, whereas crows feet are more from the skin itself wrinkling.

But wait. Are we talking about crows feet? Is that what you mean by laughter lines, OP?

BillyGroatsChuff · 13/12/2020 14:46

Botox does start to wear off just a few weeks after having it. Most I've ever got out of it is 3 months before it needs doing again. Which is normal. Some people it wears off quicker

StopDoingWeirdThings · 13/12/2020 15:01

I've had botox in a few different clinics and some are just stingy with the botox. One place I had 3 top ups and still had wrinkles, but my favourite 2 clinics have either given me completely smooth skin first time, or practically perfect with a tiny top up to get completely wrinkle free. (But still with movement so no frozen face). I would honestly go to a different place next time.

malificent7 · 13/12/2020 15:16

I meant crows feet but they are sexist slur so I prefer laughter lines!

And yes I do get the irony of that statement!

do you know if was definitely botox they used and not one of the other brands? the place i used to go to swapped them as it wasn't half as good

malificent7 · 13/12/2020 15:39

Will go to my dentist next time...they seem to know their stuff.

Sorry if I’m missing the point but why are crow’s feet a sexist slur?

WorraLiberty · 13/12/2020 15:42

@Lunaballoon

Sorry if I’m missing the point but why are crow’s feet a sexist slur?
I'm glad someone asked that!

Unless it's short for Sheryl Crow, I have no idea Confused

Othering · 13/12/2020 15:44

Yes, same question......crowsfeet a sexist slur? Its really not. It's a term applied equally to both men n women. Nowt sexist about it.

Stinkyjellycat · 13/12/2020 15:44

Botox won’t erase static lines which are already there. It will have a preventative effect.
However, there is also something of a cumulative effect if you use Botox. The first time, it wears off after about 3 months (but this will start to show at the 2 month mark probably). If you get it done again at the 3 month mark again, the next time it will need to be done after about 4 months. The next time 5 months. It doesn’t last forever obviously but the time between sessions will reduce. Mine only lasted around 8 weeks at first but it’s now around 5 months before I start to see a difference.
Try and go to a doctor who just does aesthetics rather than a dentist who does it as a sideline. With any facial aesthetics, you want someone who does it all day every day rather than someone who does it a few times a week.

Stinkyjellycat · 13/12/2020 15:47

I’m also confused about the sexist slur!

RebeccaRaspberry · 13/12/2020 16:18

It should last around 4-6 months in your forehead / 11's. This is accumulative. If it's wearing off in weeks as a PP has said, then something is very wrong or you aren't having it administered correctly

GhostCurry · 13/12/2020 18:14

OP, are you confusing “crow” and “crone”?

malificent7 · 13/12/2020 19:34

Well maybe not sexist bug i think laughter lines sound much better! Grin

OP posts:
CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 13/12/2020 19:57

Botox can be cumulative. The average time out of it is about 3 months, maybe longer if you’re younger and the lines aren’t so formed. And yes, it can be a treatment in itself. Have it regularly for 12-18 months for maximum ironing-out effect and then you might be able to stretch it out to every 6 months or so. I get a scanty 3 months out of it for my crows feet and have never been able to stretch that out. But I really don’t like my crows feet and notice them the minute they start reappearing. They’re my ‘thing’, other lines I don’t really mind, crows feet I hate.

Delatron · 13/12/2020 20:00

I also find when you get the crow’s feet done then it pushes the lines to under the eye which is more ageing and looks worse. So when mine wears off I won’t do the eyes again and I’ll just do the forehead 11s a few times a year. I like it to fully wear off so I don’t lose perspective!
