Wellies!!!!

My wellies are very uncomfortable and as I am spending a huge amount of time in them these days, and less on smart office wear, I thought I would invest.
I am looking at Le Chameau and like the boots that zip up the side (Chasseur) so they go on and off easily. They come in neoprine lined (not in stock in my size) or leather lined. They are £360 which seems a crazy amount to spend on wellies.
Does any one have them and recommend them? How about Aigle? Any other brands any one can recommend?
Looking for something that will last many, many years, zip up the side ideally, and are very comfortable. My feet get cold easily.
Thanks

I have Aigle parcour boots which I use for dog walking when it’s wet. Have had them for years and find them very comfy. No zip though, but they have styles which have adjustable gussets at the top if you like a bit more space to get them on & off.

Decorhate · 13/12/2020 08:35

I’m looking at similar for muddy walks. Muck boots have been recommended but they don’t have zips.

Ginfordinner · 13/12/2020 08:38

I tried on some Hunters recently and found that they rubbed my heels. I want something that is comfortable to walk 5 miles in. It is very muddy right now.

onyourway · 13/12/2020 08:40

Like a pp, Aigle lined parcour boots are a must. I've had mine about 5 years, so price per year is fine.

CushionsandCandles · 13/12/2020 08:46

Hunters are what I have at the moment and desperate to get rid of them! Heel rub, cold feet, little cushioning..... I could go on

I walked my old terrier 4 miles a day in my lined Aigles - fully recommend! I've forgotten what style they were now and they eventually went to the great welly cupboard in the sky when they developed a tiny hole after several years of heavy use in clay mud.

I have short legs and wide calves so I do struggle with wellies. I've got some neoprene lined ones at the moment which are comfy and have an adjustable gusset at the top, but I can't remember the make. Got them from a country fair I think so could be anything! I'll check later if you like but the Aigles are good. I've also had a Tayberry pair which did alright.

Iris5543 · 13/12/2020 08:55

I have three pairs of aigle. Lovely and soft, super slim calf fitting ( no slapping noise)
They have worn really well.

Hantie · 13/12/2020 08:59

Aigle here too, I also found that Hunters rubbed my heels so have switched to Aigle Parcours and they are fab.

Mrbay · 13/12/2020 09:00

If want something a lot cheaper, try Goodyear neoprene wellies, I did 9 miles in mine yesterday, no rubs or soreness. Never gotten cold feet in them, I wear two pairs of normal thin socks.

Be aware that Hunter and Le Chameau are now owned by the same company and are both made in the same factory so expect the same rubbish quality from both brands!

What about some leather country boots, there are some really smart looking spanish country boots, waterproof and 220€, full length zip but currently they only do a reg calf size but large is on it's way.

I love love love my Ilse Jacobsen wellies!! They are stylish and the most comfy I have ever owned. They have a really cushioned sole and a fleecy lining but they don’t impede walking. Warm and comfy. Previously used Hunter and Aigle wellies, but total convert as these are in a different league. Plus they look cool and laces mean I can adjust them to tuck thicker trousers into them.

Mistymonday · 13/12/2020 09:05

Nb: I regularly walk long distances with the dog in them up and down muddy hills.

Throwntothewolves · 13/12/2020 09:22

I have decent wellies but much prefer my Dubarry Galway boots. I wear them every day in the winter months for dog walking and even the school run. They're warm, expecially with the boot liners you can buy, comfortable and waterproof. And they have walking boot style soles so have much better grip than wellies. I've had them for years and they still look great when they're cleaned up. They're over £300 but well worth the money.

ferretface · 13/12/2020 09:41

@Mistymonday great shout on those, my wellies are currently my most worn pair of shoes because of the WFH/dog walk combo. Definitely treating myself to a pair ☺️

Ginfordinner · 13/12/2020 09:52

I have decent walking boots, but it is too muddy even for them, so I am wanting a proper welly that I can hose down when I get home. What do people think of cotswold boots? (which is more my budget)

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 13/12/2020 09:57

Another vote for Aigle. They are as comfortable as my walking boots - amazing.

Personally I'd avoid zips up the side because they are never fully waterproof but, if you don't spend as much time as me hauling dogs out of streams, this may not be an issue for you Smile

Ginfordinner · 13/12/2020 09:58

I want to be able to paddle in streams Grin

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 13/12/2020 10:01

Also, wait until the post-Christmas sales to buy - the large outdoorsy clothes stockists often have big reductions. I would not recommend buying directly from Aigle as their approach to customer service is - er - very French Wink. Buy from a reputable UK retailer.

ohgoonthenjustonemore · 13/12/2020 10:04

I have been a Chameau convert for years but I decided to give the Aigle Parcours Iso 2 a try... I can’t recommend them enough! They are super comfortable, neoprene lined and really standing up to the job I purchased them for (traipsing around fields for hours on end) They don’t have a zip but I don’t find them a problem to get on and off.

Ginfordinner · 13/12/2020 10:15

Which retailers do you recommend for Aigle?

ElspethFlashman · 13/12/2020 10:21

I also have the Aigle Parcours Iso - the ones with the gusset as I have calves like mini beer barrels.

They are absolutely great. Super tread, as good as walking boots and no problems on the calf.

HOWEVER. I would get the non-neoprene ones if I were getting them again. The neoprene is roasting and if you have circulation issues or live in a snowy area then they'd be awesome but I live in a milder area. Lots and lots of rain but not freezing often enough to need neoprene. I suspect I'd wear them more in the Spring if they were unlined but they get too hot with jeans.

ElspethFlashman · 13/12/2020 10:23

Top Tip : get them on Amazon and use CamelCamelCamel to wait for a notification of a good sale price. They have been on Amazon for years and the price has always fluctuated wildly.

Never buy them full price!!!

wewillmeetagain · 13/12/2020 10:24

Muck boots are fantastic, so comfortable. Mine cost £160 but they last forever.

Pigletpoglet · 13/12/2020 10:38

Another vote for Muckboots. Just got my first pair - easy to get on and off, but snug around the foot. Toasty warm. Good grips. Neoprene tops, so comfy to walk in and light. Very impressed!

Santosi · 13/12/2020 11:43

I swapped my Hunters (running) for some £20 Tesco wellies. I know this is not actually what you are looking for but they are so comfortable. I just bought them as I needed some quickly but like them so much that I stopped looking at the expensive makes. Never thought I would write this.

Santosi · 13/12/2020 11:43

my Hunters are rubbing, not running. autocorrect fail.
