flattering tops for the short-waisted and big-hipped woman?

I'm in need of some help here - can't find any sweaters or tops that flatter me at all.
Have realised that polo-necks make me look like a box (with one breast if it's tight-fitting or ribbed - attractive!), wrap-overs make me look as if I have no waist at all, chunky loose jumpers make me look like a bloke, and jumpers with a ribbed waist just look dreadful. I wear a lot of jeans and need something flattering to go on top.

What about empire line? Should be very feminine, with a scoop neck and a bit of cleavage, bu hide the lack of waist. Like this

A cardigan like this could be good as well. Showing off your boobs but hiding the waist.

I have no waist and I have this here - actually have it in dark purple which they dont seem to do any more, but the red looks like it might be nice. Its really flattering as its empire line but not smocky. It gives me a much better shape. and looks good with jeans.

That one is nice! What about a longish, not tight, v neck top with a fitted vacrdigan on top?

v neck fine knit merino wool jumper. gap have some nice ones.

or are you more nigella shaped? twinsets.

milkmoustache · 24/10/2007 18:26

Twinsets??? Thought I'd wait until my 40th birthday for that! DH would die laughing.
Really need something that would go with jeans. Have tried some empire line shapes but tend to expose vast expanses of chest which is too cleavage-esque, or just looks a bit - empty? and needs lots of necklaces to fill it up, and 'accessorising' is something I've never got to grips with.

I did try some of the gap merino jumpers, but the colours all made me look washed out OR they were so fine they clung on to my waistband which is what I am trying to disguise...
