Age to start anti-aging regime?

I'm 28 now and starting to see the birth of fine lines around my mouth. Its really freaking me out as I've got nothing on my forehead yet, but my cheeks are less plump, I look really tired under my eyes and my eyes are not so big anymore they're starting to droop.

I'm not sure if I should invest in some good products or take care of myself a bit more. Maybe a combination of the two? If there are any miracle products for my age skin, what would you recommend?

Good age to start definitely. Get tretinoin, vitamin C and anything else your skin needs specifically (for acne etc - prob could do with a dermatology consultation). And sunscreen. Always useful.

I'll look up tretinoin.

I did hear that vitamin C is not actually worth it. I did buy some vit c oil/solution last year but always forgot to apply it daily.

Always wear high factor sunscreen on your face all year round. Sun is your biggest enemy. No amount of expensive creams and potions will reverse the damage.
Also as you move through your 30s aim to put on about half a stone in weight. It fills out the face naturally. Avoid fillers at all cost, by the time your 50 it will look like you’ve had frogspawn injected into your lips and cheeks.
A lot of my profession do facial cosmetics, many have stopped doing fillers because they feel the long term effects are going to lead to massive litigation.

I have dark skin, so would you still recommend sun screen? Don't smoke or do drugs either but I've got very high cheekbones so I do look gaunt at times, but i am trying to lose weight not put it on.

How dark? Mediterranean or Black?.

Sunblocks essential for a lot of us but you need to live a healthy lifestyle too.

Rainedere · 12/12/2020 10:43

I'm mixed, so darker than Mediterranean but not black.

Even dark skin can get sun damage. Everyone should wear spf every day. It's the best anti aging there is.

Sunscreen for all skin colours to avoid sun damage. As others said, sun damage cannot be undone. Avoid mineral type if your skin is v dark as can make it look ashy (doesn't do it any damage, just flattens the colour visually).

Good retinols/retinoids have an evidence base for anti aging over the long term. You need to build them up and they vary a lot in quality. Theres a recent thread on here recommending some.

Vitamin C, E, hydraluric acid etc do make skin look better in the here and now. You can work them in as serums.

Check out Dr Idriss and Dr Dray for good skincare advice (online famous dermatologists). I also like Cassandra Bankson (medical estetician). TW for Dr Dray that she visually appears v underweight

Meant to add - you will need to stop taking retinols/retinoids if pregnant at any point
