Help with acne in 30s

I keep getting spots and I have had enough, I'm 37 and my skin is far worse than it ever was as s teenager!

Please could anyone suggest what would help? I get spots breakout on and around my chin almost constantly, today I've had 3 pop up along my jawline. They're usually raised and painful. I cycle between using a nivea face wash that's meant to be gentle, a garnier one that has salicylic acid and charcoal, and thinking maybe its product causing this so just water.

Its really getting me down, I don't wear make up regularly so it's not that causing it, I probably don't drink enough water and I could do with losing some weight.

I'd happily spend whatever it takes to get rid of them right now!

I suffered so badly and wasted so much money on miracle creams for years. Please just go to your gp, they have a clear pathway of things to try, stronger creams than you can buy over the counter and/or a course of antibiotics.

I got prescribed azaliac acid 20% and lymecycline antibiotics, touch wood I haven't had one spot since July!

Yes you need the dr. Your not doing anything wrong you’ve just got a bacterial infection in your skin.

The cosmetic industry has done a number on us by convincing us we’ve done something wrong if we get a spot.

Thank you, I think I felt like the doctors wouldn't take it seriously but I will phone them next week.

They will, it’ll be nice to have something they can treat rather than a list of vague symptoms.

Anything they wrote NICE guidelines on warrants treatment.

I've had similar and was about to call the GP after 6 months of painful cystic spots on my chin. Suspect it's a combination of stress & hormones, but at a friend's recommendation, I tried votary blemish oil. Amazingly, it's worked - also suspect that having got rid of them, I'm touching my chin less, which probably helps!

I had acne on my chin for twenty years. I tried every topical treatment, different pills and prescribed lotions and nothing worked. Eventually I quit dairy and within 2 weeks I had clear skin for the first time since I was 15. Dairy comes from a recently pregnant lactating mammal, so it's full of hormones. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. Give quitting dairy a try, it was a game changer for me. Soya also disrupts hormones so replace dairy with oat or almond milk instead.

Agree that cutting out dairy can help and sugar too. Otherwise, I have found that using unscented bar soap and unscented moisturiser (olay total effects fragrance free) has made a big difference. Barely get any spots anymore.

Google oestrogen dominance - no dairy or soy and try DIM supplement. Spots around the jaw are classic oestrogen dominance symptoms.

A counter argument for dairy is that my acne got worse after I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy at 27/28. I ended up taking roaccutane because I was too far gone for antibiotics.

It’s a lot of fuss to give up dairy etc when you can just take antibiotics & be done with it.

If you do give up dairy it is non-negotiable that you take vitamin d. Everyone should take it.

Giving up dairy cleared my adult acne. Might be worth a try as it's really quite easy to do now with all the alternatives that are available. I spent so much money in my 20s on different topical products and vitamins, none of which did anything, so wish I'd tried it sooner. Have you spoken to a doctor about it at all?
