Best retinol cream?

I'm in my early 30's, wear SPF daily! I've got about £60 to spend. Don't know if that's not enough/ too much?

Recommendations?

Thank you :)

Beautypie's retinol serum gets a good write up. I have Pixi retinol Tonic but have read that it's too weak to be effective

jumperweather · 10/12/2020 21:28

@TheDaydreamBelievers Thank you, I'll look it up

I really like Medik8

doadeer · 10/12/2020 21:58

Medik8 is a good starter, I'm 30 and use Crystal Retinol 3👍

Ponks · 10/12/2020 21:59

Medik8 Crystal Retinal is brilliant but much cheaper is Indeed Labs retinol reface which is just as good as the lower levels of the Medik8.

Thanks everyone! It's always good to have recommendations:)

@jumperweather really to have a retinol product at a strength that actually works you need prescription strength tretinoin. That was the only moment I noticed any difference to my skin. Over the counter products cost a lot and just aren’t strong enough to make a difference.

Nc135 · 10/12/2020 23:06

The minute I got my tretinoin I chucked all my over the counter retinols out. It takes skin a while to get used to but persevere and then wow.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 10/12/2020 23:10

@Nc135 may I ask how you managed to get it on prescription?

jumperweather · 10/12/2020 23:15

@Nc135 Yep! How do I make this happen?!

Over the counter retinol did nothing for me - prescription strength is totally different. I got mine online through Dermatica, I would definitely recommend the service they provide.

empireants · 10/12/2020 23:42

Also highly recommend Dermatica! I get**
tretinoin and niacinamide on prescription from them. Amazing and I find each tube lasts me up to two months so only costs about £10 a month.

TinselToedElf · 11/12/2020 13:23

Another recommendation for Dermatica. One tube lasts me around six weeks using six days a week.

Delatron · 11/12/2020 17:25

Agree with all the comments about Dermatica. I did spend a year or two on retinol first (Medik 8 Crystal retinal) and that seems to get my skin used to it so I had no problems diving straight in with 0.05% Tret.

ProfessorInkling · 11/12/2020 17:27

Yep Dermatica here too. Have spent a fortune previously on eg Kate Somerville, Dermalogica. No need. Service at Dermatica is fab.

Stony recommendations! I will check them
Out thank you everyone

I'm 40 but interested too.

It's an ongoing prescription for £19.99 a month plus P&P after you've sent in pictures of yourself.

Tretinoin is a marathon and not a sprint so it's a cost you need to be able to afford ongoing.

I have tret with niacinamide and azalaic acid in to counter redness.

Nc135 · 12/12/2020 03:45

@BooFuckingHoo2 @jumperweather sorry for the delay in replying. Has been a busy week! So I go to my local face clinic up the road. I paid £25 for a consultation and she put me on prescription retinol (plus other products - the obagi system). My face was a mess for 3 months as it got used to the retinol - but now after a year it is the best it has ever been.
