moisturiser for v. dry & sensitive skin?

I've been using the body shop hemp skin protector on my face but it's not hydrating enough.

I have very dry and sensitive skin, and have eczema (thankfully not on my face atm). I usually use clinique products but their moisturiser is rather pricey - £30. Is it worth spending that much on a moisturiser?
I feel quite miserable about my skin at the moment , it feels like I've had a bad facelift and stings whenever I sweat a bit.

second Anna's post.
I suffer from psoriasis and Avene soap free cleanser a life saver.
As for cream, Avene's and La roche posay ranges bothgreat, but the best one in my modest opinion is Ictyane from ducray laboratories. You can find it in some UK pharmacies and quite likely in germany too.
Very emolient, very soothing.

For the body, try Aderma oat soap free wash and Ictyane moisturizer or simply sesame oil straight after the shower on damp skin. (about 2.50 a bottle in organic shops)

Eucerin Lipobase - only available at selected Boots (though they all do the range of hand and foot creams - this is for the face) about £8, absolute genius.
My skin is ultra dry, sensitive, scaley, lizard like etc, and I tried this after the worst flare up of excema on my face, I looked like Freddie Krueger, and it was magic. My skin is currently better than it's been since my teens. I am evangelical about it (can you tell?).
Avene is quite good too, but if you can get the lipobase, try it.

Aderma Sensifluid is a great facial cleanser for sensitive skin.

hiya i use olay multi radiance cream (about £5-£6) or loreal happyderm, both are ok on my sensetive skin, especially the olay

pirategirl · 22/10/2007 11:54

i have found the boots range, Time delay very successful, on my sensitive skin.

I do have excema on the back s of my knees, and my hands are very dry again this autumn, (this started last yr).

I have used the rejuvenating day moisturiser spf 15, and the redensifying day cream spf 15. I think there is anothe rone i first tried too, on reccopmendation in a magazine, that it was good, I think it was the day one factor 8.

Its about 9 quid for 50ml

pirategirl · 22/10/2007 11:55

oh and i havent tried it yet for me, but my mum has dermatitis, and i said for her to try the Kamilosan, the one for cracked nips. I might try some myself on my hands, tis v soothing.

epaderm? My doctor uses it as a moisturiser, and swears by it, she looks fab too!

geekgirl · 22/10/2007 14:50

I like epaderm too but it doesn't seem to hydrate enough on the face. It's a very good barrier cream though against wind & cold.

I've bought some Eucerin moisturiser now to tide me over and will have a look at the swankier brands in German pharmacies

thanks everybody, it's been a very useful thread - really appreciate the suggestions for what to use on the body too because that's being a flippin' itchy nightmare despite daily Balneum baths & diprobase applications. Dh thinks I should go and see the GP but I fear they won't really be able to suggest anything else, as it's so wide-spread (i.e. - my entire torso )

Thanks Anna8888 for suggestion for DH's hands - maybe I can use it as an excuse for a trip to France?

Geekgirl - maybe a visit to your GP is in order? You never know - they might be able to help.

I was on the point of giving up all hope about my legs when I saw a different GP to normal. The eczema would flare up and get a bit infected, the hydrocortisone cream would then sort out the eczema but make the infection worse and antibiotic cream for the infection would (you've guessed it) cause the eczema to flare up again. Nasty cycle. New GP took one look and prescribed betnovate-N which sorted out infection and eczema. I still get flare ups from time to time but nowhere near as bad.

Try not to feel down about it - easy to say, I know.

I second the Eucerin range; this was recommended to me by a friend. There's no flashy packaging but it worked for me. HTH
