Any helpful hairdressers out there?

Hello, I'm hoping for some hair advice please.

Went to the hairdressers yesterday for my usual highlights. She lifted my roots first and then used a toner all over.

My roots seem to have lifted too far though and are lighter than the rest of my hair. Not terrible but a bit like an upside down balayage, which is not the look I was going for!

She knows that my hair goes brassy easily which I really don't like, so she used a very ashy toner but now the roots are verging on grey because they're so light.

I know I should have said something/should go back to her to get it fixed but I know she's had a really tough time with lockdowns and is exhausted/fully booked working every hour possible before Christmas. I wouldn't want to pay her any more and just don't want to ask for her time for free at the moment, especially as it isn't awful, just not quite right.

Can anybody please recommend a product I could use at home which would tone down/darken the roots a little?

DP's only reaction when I got home was to exclaim 'gosh, what a blonde top!' Not the reaction I was hoping for Sad

Anybody? Or am I destined for grey hair for Christmas 😫

I know you don't want to be a pain but I'd go back to her, freshly highlighted hair can go all sorts of interesting colours if you try to fix it yourself, and if your husband noticed immediately so will everyone else!

Yup, go back to her

Thanks for the replies and advice.
I know I should go back to her, I really do but I just can't. She messed it up this time last year and I went back and she spent ages fixing it for free. I just can't do that again!

I should have learnt my lesson the first time. I will go elsewhere in future!

I'm not sure whether lemon juice might just lighten it even further?

For now I've ordered some dry shampoo with a hint of brunette in the hope that it might help... at least it can't do any lasting damage!

Lemon juice is a definite no!
I am a hairdresser.
Could you post a pic to confirm?
But from what your description I would say it will fade after a few washes

Catcrazy008 · 10/12/2020 19:16

If the colour is too light, then it would be lo lights to darken and brake it up.
If it is just too much ash it will fade.

Lemon juice is fine- it’s just citric acid.

Catcrazy008 · 10/12/2020 21:13

Lemon juice is a very strong acid

Imissmoominmama · 10/12/2020 21:57

Yeah, but mixed with conditioner? Acid is better for hair than alkaline (going off my hairdressing training in the early 90s Grin).

Catcrazy008 · 11/12/2020 13:40

That is correct alkaline is harsher on the hair than acid.
Saying that I have never used or seen any hairdresser use lemon juice on the hair 🤦‍♀️
