Tell me about tape extensions!

Just had a hair consultation for a balayage next Friday, due to bleaching my hair has snapped off a lot and the hairdresser suggested tape extensions around the sides as my hair is long at the back it’s just the sides. Has anyone got any experience? I’m really tempted!

Sorry just to add the breakage caused get bleaching happened a year ago and was caused by a different hairdresser. This is a totally new stylist who is very much keen to help my hair heal and improve the condition.

I've had them in the past and liked them as they lie flat against your head. They don't last as long as bond extensions I don't think and they're a bit harder to hide if you wear your hair up a lot. The pluses I found were they're very quick to put in and very quick to remove, as well as being comfy to sleep in

I have them for the same reason - hair length all around my face was a mess. They looked great as the colour match was perfect and they styled really well but the washing and drying around the tape was a bit of a pest. I used to have to wash the front parts of my hairs in layers to make sure I got between all the tapes and they took forever to dry.

Thank you! I’m really tempted but I’m nervous about how to wash and dry them. But I hate the look of the breakage, do they damage your hair at all? The last thing I want to do is cause more damage to the hair that’s already fragile! Are tape ins just for a specific event or can they be worn long term if you look after them properly/have them changed regularly?

On another note does anyone have any recommendations for anti breakage/strengthening shampoo/conditioners or masks? I’ve got the redken anti snap leave in treatment.

It’s scary the first time they’re removed because it looks like a lot of hair has came out with them but it’s just natural shedding that hasn’t been able to come out in the 6-8 weeks you’ve had the tapes in.

I actually had to take them out myself during the first lockdown in May and even then there was only a couple of disaster tapes that I probably could have taken more care with!

I got two lots of 6-8 weeks with a single pack of Beauty Works hair and it was about £85 for the hair and about £25 for the tape in, retaping and removal. I don’t think they damaged my hair as the tension is spread more evenly along a strip of hair (mine were about an inch wide) rather than a small bond. I haven’t had more put back in because lockdown! But I would do it again.
