Dissolving lip fillers - how many appointments is it likely to take?

I got some lip filler a few weeks back and after giving it a couple of weeks to see how I liked it I've decided I'd ideally like it dissolved. I think the person put a little too much in although it's not awful by any means. I've read that it sometimes takes a few trips to dissolve it all though and wondered how common that is? Should I expect to have to go back a few times or is that unusual and if I do, will my lips be bumpy and uneven between appointments. I think they put in 0.5 to 1 of whatever it was they put in (which was definitely fully reversible although I am going somewhere else to get them dissolved to the place that did them).

Or to put it differently, if you've had lip fillers dissolved, how long did it take?

As in how many appointments?

Depends if they were an actually nurse who will have the dissolving stuff to hand and be able to administer that. Or someone who has done a short course and buys lesser quality stuff and doesn’t have training in using the other stuff to dissolve the filler.
Iirc the results should be instant pretty much for the right agent

I'd recommend if you dont completely hate them to let them dissolve naturally themselves. I had filler left in my lips from a while ago that had migrated above my top lip (only a little) and I wanted them dissolved and redone to give them a better shape and I wish I hadn't bothered. Took 2 sessions of dissolving 2 weeks apart and my lips swelled like CRAZY I can PM you pics if helpful. My lips are now much smaller than they were even before I had filler as the filler is made of hyalauric acid that is naturally found in your lips and the stuff they use to dissolve the filler can also dissolves some of your natural tissue. I've had to wait another 4 weeks before getting more filler and I'm so self conscious of my thin shivrelled lips I wish I'd left them as they were!! X

It's a reputable clinic that's going to dissolve them and yes, a nurse.

How long did it take for the swelling to go down peach? Who did you go to can I ask? A doctor or nurse?

Over the course of about a week different parts of my lips swelled at different times! I had it done by a dentist. There's only one type of product you can use to dissolve filler it's called hyluronidase but there are different dilutions so some practitioners use a stronger dilution than others but I believe they air on side of caution as the stronger it is the more of your own tissue it can dissolve and you can end up with shrivelled empty looking lips

peach1234 · 07/12/2020 21:02

I had mine done by a doctor

ScalpHelp · 07/12/2020 21:08

Sorry, haven’t read all the responses here.

Just wanted to chime in and say I had awful lip filler this time last year - the nurse completely overfilled them and the product had migrated around my mouth and was lumpy etc.

There was a lot to remove, but 99% of the filler was dissolved after the first appointment as my dr was really thorough, she made a special effort to remove it all in one session as she felt sorry for me! I did go back for a 2nd session for a tiny bit left on the inside of my lip, but could have probably left it as my lips were back to normal and I may have been finicky.

100% get your lips dissolved if you don’t like them. It will feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

ScalpHelp · 07/12/2020 21:14

the stuff they use to dissolve the filler can also dissolves some of your natural tissue.

Sorry but this is not true. It won’t affect the appearance of your natural lips.

peach1234 · 07/12/2020 21:18

It is true, filler is made from hylauronic acid which is naturally found in your lips, the chemical used to dissolve fillers breaks down the hylauronic acid and therefore can breakdown the naturally occurring hylauronic acid in your lips at the same time. Do your research.

ScalpHelp · 07/12/2020 21:29

@peach1234 Do your own research darling as it’s clear you’re not a medical professional. I’d trust a experienced doctor (and the many articles online) that say otherwise over some illiterate random like yourself.

AliciafromGalicia · 16/12/2020 15:46

Thanks Scalphelp - and sorry for the very late reply! And sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with filler! When you said 99% was dissolved after your first appointment, was that within a few days or did it take longer?

Mine took one appointment and was over very quickly. I went to the cinema afterwards and it was a strange, but relieving sensation to feel them deflate (and no it doesn't affect the natural lip tissue).

SquarePeggyLeggy · 19/12/2020 02:36

If you don’t hate them, I would leave them! I got 2ml put in, it was too much, but like you it wasn’t awful. It’s now almost 3 years later and they have settled so well, I love them now!

AliciafromGalicia · 19/12/2020 04:06

That sounds promising goldielockdown - had they deflated completely by the end of the day. I might be able to get an appointment on Monday but don't know if I should risk potentially looking odd on Christmas day!

Square - I don't hate them but I don't really like them either and I like them least when I smile.

OP posts:
goldielockdown2 · 19/12/2020 10:44

Yes, OP they had dissolved by the end of the film! I don't see why you'd be left with strange looking lips.
