Its so hard? Anyone else find this? Everything seems so young or so 'old. I am 5ft 2 and a size 12 so I really can look very middle aged in the wrong thing! I'm sick of not knowing what to do.

I’m with you. I’m 34 and struggling to find a style identity.

I know what I want to wear - stylish dresses, tailored pieces like culottes and blazers, nice shirts, etc. I even own a few of these pieces. But my lifestyle (3 kids 5 and under) seems to have me constantly reaching for skinny jeans and basic tops, which just make me look frumpy.

It's a weird age. The younger stuff can feel try hard. The nicer, more pulled together stuff can feel unfun

Honestly I'm the same age and don't feel this way at all. I just dress in the same things as before. I dress quite 'classicly' ( boringly) so rarely feel I'm dressed too young. Lockdown has given me a bit of a style crisis in that I only ever want to wear loungewear and have nowhere to go but generally my outfits remain the same - slim straight leg jeans, tucked in jumper (balloon sleeves, roll neck, something with a collar these days) or a shirt, socks and biker boots, gold layering jewellery and a blazer in autumn, long coat scarf and beanie hat in winter.

If I'm not wearing that I'm usually wearing a smock dress and chunky boots, sometimes with a jumper over the dress, or a short skirt and jumper tucked in. Comfy, easy
looks reasonably cool (in my head) and I feel good in it.

My problem was that after 4 kids my shape changed...gradually threw out my old stuff and replaces with comfy Hmm

I wear the same things I did in my 20s. I shop at New Look. Don't care if it is seen as a younger persons shop the clothes are affordable and pretty.

Totally agree with you. It’s an odd age for style - never realised it was until I got here. But trying not to think about what age I am and just wearing what I am comfortable in while trying to stay current. Re-hauled my wardrobe recently and have gone for tan, cream, black and denim items - maybe a bit boring but a capsule wardrobe of sorts and everything can be dressed up or down depending on footwear, jewellery and makeup. Can’t go wrong with biker boots and nice knitwear at the moment anyway. Or a dress you feel nice in with tights and boots.

I felt like that when I turned 25. Felt so mature and didn’t know how to express myself. So I started looking at mannequins and brochures and just copy the entire outfit from head to toe. Ideas could be from anywhere! River island, jaeger, Reiss, Hugo boss, primark! Whatever that speaks to you. After a couple of years I developed my own style that any random combination of my clothes will work together. It doesn’t really fall into any age category and it’s constantly evolving as I introduce new pieces into the mix.
