Persistent patch of dry skin on face - what to do?

I have a patch of dry skin on my face, above my top lip which I can't get rid of. It flakes, looks awful and feels tight when I talk/eat.

Any recommendations on how to get rid of it? Any good recommendations for creams or potions? I'm 47 and don't have any allergies/eczema/psoriasis.

Is definitely try Vaseline at night. That should do the trick

Coldwinterahead1 · 06/12/2020 16:51

8 hour cream

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 06/12/2020 16:55

Nipple cream on it at night - amazing stuff

I have Vaseline. Does it work?

I was going to say lansinoh too.

I had something like this once, only mine was on my lower cheek/chin area.

Being then in a country with much better access to specialists than the UK (direct access to specialists privately for an accessible sum), I went to the dermatologist. I got a cream and an antibiotic and it cleared up nicely.

I'd call up your GP surgery and see if you can get an appointment or if something can be prescribed for you on the basis of your description.

Otherwise see if you can get a steroid cream OTC.

Is it red and flakey? Does it ever go away? How long have you had it?
See your GP, always, for any skin changes. I had a similar patch, went to GP for something unrelated. It was Bowens Disease, I was only in my 30s and never sunbathe! Easily treated thank goodness.

It could be many things, have it checked.

If it has been more than a few weeks, I’d get it checked out. We tend to think of skin in terms of ‘beauty’ but it’s an organ, and can show signs of ill health.

Best to get it dealt with medically.

Suncream Smile

Bio oil

Tehmina23 · 07/12/2020 19:47

I'd get it checked with a dr.

Blush yes it's been there on and off for ages. Is it really GP appointment material? I suppose to be safe.

Have been trying Vaseline, not sure it's working, will get some lansinoh today.

Yes get it checked, it might be a BCC but DONT WORRY they're completely treatable. You just need to get it looked at

AhBorisSTFU · 09/12/2020 07:12

Vitamin E cream from the body shop. They used to give samples out, not sure now. I used to get a really dry patch on my face in winter, the little sample was enough to sort it out. I did buy tubs too as I really rated it.

marigoldsmarigolds · 09/12/2020 07:22

Had a similar thing. Went to dermatologists and was offered a biopsy and then had it frozen (my term not theirs!) and it scabbed over and then healed up within a week. Never came back. It was skin ketosis which is sun damage. Biopsy was negative. If you have the money (maybe £200?) go straight to a specialist.

BackwardsGoing · 09/12/2020 07:26

Okay, message received. Will book a GP's appointment. I've googled Bowen's disease and it doesn't look like that, it's not red, it's just flaky and tight.

I'm fair skinned and freckly, grew up in the Middle East and in the past have not been brilliant at using sun cream. Obviously regretting that now!
