Deep hydration

I’ve stated using Dermatica for (most likely hormonal) acne but my skin was never oily so it’s extremely dry & peeling after just a couple of applications.

Any recommendations for good hydration that is non-comedogenic? Hyaluronic acid has always left my skin tight. At the moment I’m using First Aid Beauty coconut oil cream. In another thread La Roche Posay was recommended. That might be best as it’s mild?

Just checking in case there’s something popular or obvious I’ve somehow missed?

Cicaplast

Apileofballyhoo · 06/12/2020 13:51

CeraVe moisturising lotion, or the face PM cream, but that contains 5% niacinamide and might not suit you. On the other hand it could be great for your skin. What's in your dermatica?

Cicaplast is a good suggestion above.

Joeyandpacey · 06/12/2020 14:01

I find it has to be an oil. You can add a layer over a really good moisturiser like cerave. I just do a layer of avocado oil at the end of the day and it is lovely.

DameCelia · 06/12/2020 14:03

If it's the tretinoin making you so dry definitely cicaplast. The La Roche Possay one is great.

Separatedandabitsad · 06/12/2020 14:41

Thank you so much. My Dermatica has niacinamide, clindamycin & low % Tretinoin,

I’ll check out the LRP cicaplast & the CeraVe moisturiser.

Much obliged. Thanks

Avocado oil too - interesting!

Were you using the hyaluronic acid on damp or dry skin? It has to be damp otherwise it doesn't work and can have the opposite effect. Finding this out was a total epiphany for me! Grin

GoldfishParade · 06/12/2020 14:44

Please be careful with oils, avocado oil gave me an allergic reaction and my entire face started peeling and scaling, fitness absolutely appalling.

LRP, Eucerin and E45

@Passmeabottlemrjones
😯😯😯😯😯 I did NOT know that!! Gamechanger!!!

Separatedandabitsad · 06/12/2020 14:49

Thanks @Passmeabottlemrjones I tried hyaluronic acid dry, wet, damp, straight out of the shower - you name it! Time & again tight dry skin! So annoying as it seems to be the wonder ingredient these days.

Thanks @GoldfishParade I’ll stick with oils already in my bathroom to start with. Adult acne & peeling is enough for now without throwing an allergic rash on top of it! Grin

@GoldfishParade I found it out from My Skin Story on Instagram (who is fabulous by the way, has suffered from acne herself and really seems to know what she is talking about).

She says:

Spray face with water or rosewater (I buy rosewater off ebay)
Hyaluronic acid (I use Hada Labo)
A small bit of moisturiser to seal in the hydration (I use a tiny bit of Weleda Skin Food)
SPF (I use Boots Soltan bog standard factor 30! Grin)

It definitely works for me at least!

Apileofballyhoo · 06/12/2020 21:20

The hyaluronic acid has to be sealed in with something else, but to be honest it never seems to do anything miraculously moisturising/hydrating for me. My house might be too dry or something. The CeraVe is great though.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/12/2020 21:24

Coconut oil is highly comedogenic, so using the coconut oil cream might not be wise.

JoanDarc · 07/12/2020 00:25

I'm still not convinced about HA and use it as above, don't think I'll bother after this one runs out. For Dermatica prescription, I'd reduce to every second night initially and I always moisturise with my trusted Avene rich recovery cream; one of the few products I buy on repeat. If skin is feeling particularly dry I'll moisturise quite quickly after; otherwise try and leave it 10 mins + for the trey to work its magic. I sometimes follow up with an oil as an additional layer.

PirateCatQueen · 07/12/2020 00:41

Aloe vera

justilou1 · 07/12/2020 00:46

You need hyaluronic acid AND an occlusive, or it will dry your skin out. I would use the hyaluronic acid AND the Cerave. It’s fabulous. Or, get onto Amazon or YesStyle and get some Hada Labo red gel crème with collagen and Aladdin. It’s light and VERY moisturizing, but not at all clogging.

justilou1 · 07/12/2020 00:46

*I use it with tretinoin, btw

JMAngel1 · 07/12/2020 05:09

Do we get three wishes with the Hadi Labo Grin
