What to do about Milia?

Retailqueenie · 05/12/2020 22:33

Have about 10 on my forehead and chin, arrived over the last year and retinol is not shifting them. Definitely milia, I had a Dr check. I had dermaplanning and I’m thinking this may have caused them..

So, as GPs tend not to touch these days do I go to a dermatologist for deroofing or do I try cryotherapy?

Anyone had any success with either choice?

Can you remove them with a needle?

Nsky · 05/12/2020 22:45

Extracted a few , sharp needle and a good pinch/ squeeze, mine were tiny tho.
Recently had one on finger, fine no probs

Retailqueenie · 05/12/2020 22:46

I’d be nervous of causing scaring and they’re quiet established..

Aspirin face mask usually shifts mine, though sometimes needs more than one go.

SoLongFurlough · 06/12/2020 00:23

This is intriguing!
What's tendskin?
Whats an asprin face mask?

Icanseewhyichangednyusername · 06/12/2020 00:28

Electrolysis helped mine

Order some sterile hypodermic needles as these are the sharpest ones and will cause the least damage to skin.

Have a warm bath and soak. Then once dry gently probe them in the direction of the follicles. They will come out very easily but require you to pop through the inner membrane.

Alternatively you can use benzoyl peroxide for a month. This will bring them to the surface and you can remove them with gentle rubbing. I've used Duac before with great success.

PirateCatQueen · 06/12/2020 01:16

Salicylic acid serum or peel for twenty to thirty minutes, then a clay mask (containing a clay other than just kaolin, it’s not absorb any enough), 2-3 times a week.

Take a while to shift them, but they do get smaller quickly and then go totally. I kept doing it twice a week and they’ve never come back. No blackheads of white heads now either.

im5050 · 06/12/2020 01:45

A beautician would be able to remove them for you

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 06/12/2020 01:47

Electrolysis or cryotherapy I've had both for sebaceous hyperplasia which is similar

hangryeyes · 06/12/2020 07:28

I have a couple of recurrent ones. Liquid Gold acid toner always shifts mine eventually, or at least brings them closer to the surface that they can be popped with a needle. It needs a couple of weeks of use (not everyday though).

This is all amazing advice, thankyou, so many suggestions which I’d never heard of!

I will go investigate, much appreciated everyone..

I pop mine with a needle. It’s ridiculously satisfying! Skin isn’t damaged - tiny needle prick heals over in a few minutes. I’ve done more damage squeezing normal spots!

Crazybunnylady123 · 06/12/2020 13:47

I used to have 2 on my face and I went to a beautician. Sorted.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 06/12/2020 14:34

Same problem here OP since my teens all over my cheeks 🙄

Went to a beautician and had them removed when I got married and they are all back again. Might try some of the suggestions on here

Retailqueenie · 06/12/2020 16:12

I’m reticent about having them deroofed for fear of scaring.

Those of you that needle & pop, are yours quite protruding? Mine are beneath the skin - I would really have to dig down?

I’ve always removed them myself. Make a small hole on one side with a sterile needle and push them out from the other side. Never had any scarring.

Retailqueenie · 06/12/2020 21:22

Ok, thanks! Will give it a try..

I pick mine with a needle. If deep it leaves a small scab which when picked off a day or so later the milia either come off with the scab or easily pop out.
I love doing this, but rarely get them. No scars.

Standrewsschool · 06/12/2020 21:41

Must admit, I’ve squeezed them as well. Sometimes I don’t succeed, but when the scab comes off, it seems to pull it away.
