Gel nails reaction

About 2 years ago I had a severe reaction to at home gel nails. One if my dd had a uv lamp and I decided to give it a try and absolutely loved doing them, but after about 6 months I had a really bad reaction, they were itchy and in the end "lifted" my nails. Anyway leaving them alone they have fully recovered (phew) but am wondering if to have a go again but have them done professionally.

A friend has professionally trained and I really fancy giving them a go. Admittedly before I did a real no no and bought stuff off ebay and I'm sure one was a bad batch.

Had anyone else had this and tried again? I'd love to have nice nails over Xmas and not have to worry about them chipping. But I'd hate for it to happen again as it was so painful and dont want my friend to feel bad if I react (not sure i can have a skin test for them). Any advice will be heeded.

Home gel nails are known to increase the chances of an allergy but if your allergic then that’s it you are contraindicated for having it done again.

I’d be very surprised if a professionally trained and insured tech would be willing to apply a known allergen to you.

You’ll need to tell the dentist you have an acrylic allergy too, it’s in dental cements if you need work doing when your older. Also bone cement in orthopaedic procedures eg broken hip.

Yep, you’ve had an allergic reaction to something in the nail product which has got onto your skin.

These chemicals really shouldn’t be sold to untrained diy nail techs as the number of allergies they have caused has skyrocketed according to my consultant dermatologist.

Sadly, I think you’ll find that you now have an allergy for life unless medical science makes a breakthrough.

Unfortunately I think you may be allergic to all gel nails now, allergies can develop suddenly like this and it's not necessarily that it was a bad batch.

Godh, thank you for the comments, I'll give it a wide berth and stick to normal polish! Scary about other things this might have react to!

No advice sorry but thanks to your thread I won’t be buying an at home gel kit . I get my nails done every month and was debating one but now I won’t.
