Skincare stockpiling

I sometimes buy 4 or more of the same product if it is on offer, for obvious reasons.

Does anyone else tend to do this? Or am I cheap and massive idiot?

I do that. I usually have between 6 months to five years worth of favourites in stock, depends on use by date/how certain I am I’ll continue to like it.

That way, if something gets discontinued, I have plenty of time to trial replacements.

jjnk · 04/12/2020 04:45

I don't do that. It's tempting but I don't for several reasons. If I have loads of skincare:

  • I can forget what I do have
  • I feel I can't try anything else new because if I've already got 10 facial oils how can I buy something else!
  • I like my skincare to be "fresh" esp serums / oils etc. No science behind it but just my preference!
  • space!

There's only a couple of my own personal "holy grail" products I have more than one of but it's literally only a few items extra.

I wasn't always like this. I had severe fomo when I first got into skincare and realized that I had to stop when I blew £300 on some skincare that I hadn't even touched in 6m.

My skincare is quite simple:
Cleanser
Moisturiser
Bha
Retinol
Sunscreen
Toner
Azelaic acid
Vit c

So it's basically the same products over and over. I do stockpile (about 2-3 of each) cleanser and moisturiser, sometimes toner. Not the rest though, they last a bit more

readingismycardio · 04/12/2020 04:57

If I counts I also do it with foundation (I ve used the same urban decay for years. They discontinued it and now I use the new one)

I have one that I use and an unopened one, always

Fruitteatime · 04/12/2020 05:31

Yes I'd buy one or two extra products of on offer (although I only buy face wash so very cheap). I'm really confused about @readingismycardio 's skincare being simple, your skin care list is 4 times as long as mine (face wash and sun cream in the summer). Not saying it's wrong just seem very complex to me given the list of products. I have rosacea so I'm clearly going wrong and need tips.

charlieclown · 04/12/2020 05:34

Most things seem to say use within 12 months though, so how do you square that?

readingismycardio · 04/12/2020 05:39

@Fruitteatime hi! 🤗 I feel it's quite simple because I got used to it, but it took a lot of trial and error.

I don't have any experience with rosacea (have my own shit to deal with lol), but as far as I know, azelaic acid & mild salicylic - BHA for example are great for rosacea.

Have a look into it

readingismycardio · 04/12/2020 05:40

@charlieclown 6/12 months FROM OPENING the actual product, not from when you buy it! Hope that helps!

MiaN · 04/12/2020 05:41

I don't, apart from tret when travelling to spain

JMAngel1 · 04/12/2020 05:56

I do but try to reign it in as if I find a new product that supersedes it, I have piles of unwanted product (looking at you TO granactive retinoid). So I try to stick to just one backup - although I may have just ordered 3 ascorbic acid powders as it’s always out of stock when I need it.

sofiaaaaaa · 04/12/2020 06:04

I don’t. I suppose I have enough income to just repurchase for full price when something is running low.

I already have loads of skincare that I don’t use so stockpiling is a bad idea for me! I’m struggling to store it all.

Anotheruser02 · 04/12/2020 10:43

I do that with spf, but I do top up during the day. I think I'm becoming an spf junkie I want to try them all now.

XmasLockdown · 04/12/2020 10:45

Yes. I am sorted for the whole next year.

DelphineWalsh · 04/12/2020 11:01

I don't. I'm not that particularly loyal to any specific product and I'm sure they'll be another similar out there that I can use instead.

julietmanchester · 04/12/2020 12:38

Glad I'm not the only one buying more during offers, as I loathe paying full price. It makes me feel very smart with my money, and one of the few things I treat myself to.

It's also a nice thing to have around to give as gifts in a pinch!

I'm gifting my mum a very expensive night cream I got on offer due to not wanting to shop anymore. I bought 4 luxury cream to last me until covid is over (and beyond), and mum just mentioned she is out of moisturiser.

Also may send a tub to a dear friend who is depressed and alone with with her DS for Christmas.

IRunLikeJoeBiden · 04/12/2020 12:51

I have a few disappointing non-finished products languishing (including the aforementioned TO Granactive Retinoid) and am considering just chucking them in the bin.

Well, rinsing them out and recycling the containers, obviously. Grin

I bought a whole load of lovely stuff from REN in their sale last week and I just want to use that instead.

Anotheruser02 · 04/12/2020 13:13

Can't you relegate these facial products to neck and chest? I always do that with things I'm less than impressed with, apparently we are supposed to treat those areas as face skin.

QueenPaws · 04/12/2020 13:14

With some things I use all the time, yep
Currently have 8 bottles of CYO foundation, and 4 bottles of botanics cleanser

julietmanchester · 04/12/2020 13:41

@Anotheruser02

I do the exact same thing! I use up less desirable creams or oils for my neck and chest when I move on to a newer cream or oil.

Yes, your face starts from your décolleté!
