Best hairdryer for curry hair?

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 02/12/2020 23:04

I need a good hairdryer for getting my 2c/3a hair dry without frizz. Must have a good diffuser- have no idea about ceramic/ionic etc. but my current one is has none of these and is old, cheap and makes my hair frizz.

Budget up to £100

Does anyone have one they’d recommend?

Curly hair 😂 FFS

Ha Ha, Grin

I usually go for a mid range dryer and diffuser.
Trick is to get one with a cool shot button and three settings.
If you need volume get a diffuser with longer prong bits.
Honestly, this is most of them and they work great with curly hair.

Yummy hair, OP 😂😂😂😂

Any ideas on specific models?

It's outside your budget but I do heartily recommend the Dyson hairdryer and diffuser for curly hair. I really notice the difference when I don't use mine.

You can buy it with interest free monthly instalments direct from the Dyson website if you fancy a splurge.

That diffuser is good, don’t actually know what my hairdryer is, it’s one I swapped with my daughter for because I tried to buy a new one and the heat and force were linked... I couldn’t have blowy without hot... so I stole hers.

I was afraid someone might say this! Is it really good? I had no idea about an interest free option... the cost is bloody eye watering isn’t it?

Don’t want to get a second hand one in case it breaks (it is a dyson after all Grin)

Thanks for the other recommendation tabulahrasa, will check it out; I do need a new hairdryer to go with it, so welcome any further ideas Smile

Wrap it in a naan. They are quite absorbent.

I’m going to end up getting a Dyson aren’t I?

Don't think there's any point shelling out ££££ for a fancy dryer when you've got curly hair. Heat + air flow + curls = frizz.

The Revlon big hot blowy big brush thingy is better than any hairdryer and is only about £30-40.

I say that as someone with curly hair (the shitty frizzy kind) and a willingness to shell out for 'miracle' cures.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/12/2020 18:31

No matter what I've used and no matter what the hairdresser uses, I end up with a head of fluffy frizz if I go near a hairdryer.
Just sqeeze out the water, apply some leave in no silicone hair stuff and let it dry. 3 in1 mask condition treatment works well, or a little oil pulled through the ends. Twist a few unruly curls into place and leave it alone.

nancybotwinbloom · 04/12/2020 18:38

I have curly hair and the revlon one is a game changer for me.

It doesn't dry my hair out as much as others have.

I have the straighteners and together the make my hair look shiny and I love them 😍

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 04/12/2020 19:09

Thank you- I should add, I stopped straightening it or blow drying straight it a couple of years ago, so am really after something with a good diffuser.

I don’t usually have time to let it dry naturally unfortunately, plus it needs a bit of a boost at the roots.

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 04/12/2020 20:53

Get the giant diffuser... try it on your current hairdryer... honest, even with a rubbish hairdryer it’s good.

nancybotwinbloom · 04/12/2020 22:52

Will a dyson diffuser fit on a normal hairdryer

ChequerBoard · 05/12/2020 11:09

No, the Dyson diffuser comes with the hairdryer and is specially shaped to clip magnetically to the body of the Dyson hairdryer.

It really is good for curly hair. I need to diffuse mine as it's too flat at the roots if I let it air dry. The Dyson has a low, slow heat that seems to prevent frizz and amplify volume.

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2020 17:05

I've never used the diffuser on mine. Does it take the frizz out?

I actually have no idea how to use a diffuser

Deadsetondestruction · 06/12/2020 18:01

GHD with diffuser cup.

If it’s frizz from air drying, no - you’ll need a product for that, gel or cream... or both, depending on your hair.

But compared to blow drying normally, yes. It holds the curls while drying and keeps away the worst of the heat and blowiness from going directly on the curls.

You usually start with your head upside down and you’re being the diffuser up to your head so the hair is sitting in it, then you flip your head sideways and back, so you’re getting all your hair but section by section.... there’s loads of videos though if you google it.

One of the reasons I like my diffuser is that it’s so deep, so your hair really does sit in it properly and isn’t squashed up against your head.

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2020 19:04

Thank you I've never tried because if I want it curly I just air dry it.

I'm going to have a go!

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2020 19:05

For products for taking the frizz out

I have been using label m oil for about three years. It's about £20 a go but it lasts for ages and it works on dry hair without making it greasy

MustardMitt · 06/12/2020 21:28

I got this blag Dyson from Amazon and I'm pleased with it. It doesn't get too hot and the air flow isn't too high (so not good if you ever want to blowdry straight!).

MustardMitt · 06/12/2020 21:28

(I also have the Revlon thing which is great but obviously not for when you want natural curls)
