With debenhams gone, where do I buy clothes?

I'm 43, size 16, short. I buy pretty much all my clothes in Debenhams. I work in a fairly casual workplace, we can wear anything apart from jeans or other very casual trousers.

Debenhams were great for semi smart black trousers with elasticated waists and pockets, flattering tops for my kind of size (like bubble hem or floaty tops). They had the best jeggins with real pockets that I live in at the weekends.

If Wallis lives on, at least I've got them.

Any other ideas please?

I've spent lots of time browsing the Uniqlo website but never bought anything because I can't quite figure out the sizes.

They have the size calculator, has anyone used it and would you say it's accurate?

The supermarkets have been great for clothes. I've had some lovely trousers and jumpers which were so cheap compared to some high street shops and good quality - have kept their shape, not gone bobbly.

Debenhams & Dorothy Perkins were 2 of my go to shops, but I've also been using M&S (great for different length trousers) and Boden for simple tops in a huge range of colours.

I've bought a cashmere jumper in the Debenhams sale; I've always wanted one but could never have afforded it without the huge discount. I'm gutted that they are closing. Always had a soft spot for them.

I've been wondering about where to shop in future.
Clothes shopping is the one thing I've resisted doing online because it seems such a faff. With trousers/jeans, I'd easily try on half a good half a dozen before finding a pair that fitted properly. Don't get me started on bras...

SnowmanDrinkingSnowballs · 03/12/2020 10:16

If you are big enough then bravissimo is a must for bras. I would urge you to give primark a go for trousers. They do a decent range of leg lengths and are very good value.

I always found sainsburys good for work trousers. Cut for a curvier shape.

M&s are still OK for staple items, like leggings.

Next sell a lot of other brand clothes now. Get an account do you can order loads of different things and try on at home. The only issue I have with them is their excessive plastic packaging.

Also next tend to be out of stock on quite a few things, so you have to wait weeks for delivery.

I had a look on the Debenhams website for the first time in years yesterday. I think you would find similar items at M&S - lots of elasticated waists and different lengths available in trousers/skirts. Sainsbury's has some similar stuff too.

Floaty tops/tunics possibly from Seasalt and White Stuff if you like brights and prints. ASOS has some great stuff but it's hard to find on the website as they just have so much choice available.

Bras are easy. John Lewis, m and s, bra stop.

M&S Ivy skinny jeans are good for the short and plump amongst us and have good pockets.

Sainsburys has some food finds. Fatface good for floaty stuff - the finishing is excellent for the price point, though some of heir fabrics are better than others. Weird fish similar to mantaray but the quality is variable.
