I couldn’t justify the hush price tag but will I regret it?

This year for Christmas Day I decided I wanted to look nice and now my youngest is 3 I should be able to look decent. After browsing the net I same up with an outfit - the leather joggies from hush in khaki and the sequin camo sweatshirt. But seeing that figure in my shopping basket I just couldn't justify it. Shock

I’ve gone for the faux leather ones from mint velvet and a bodysuit from reiss and now I’m regretting taking the cheaper option (not that my alternative was that cheap but it was cheaper....)

Has anyone got either of the mint velvet ones or the hush ones? Feedback on these products would be great.

Should I just have got what I really wanted?

If you can afford it, order the Hush ones to try .. they might not look as good as you think. I've caved and ordered a jumper from Hush that is about 3 x the price I'd normally pay, but I've been looking at it for weeks and can't find anything else that looks as nice. I may try it and think "meh", in which case my credit card would be relieved! But I know that if I got a cheaper alternative I'd still be thinking of the Hush one.

MarmaladeTeepee · 29/11/2020 10:19

As the pp said I would order the hush ones (even if it's on a credit card so you don't take the hit straight away) and then compare the 2 outfits - assuming you can still return the mint velvet / Reiss items. If it's something you love and you can see yourself wearing it for the long term I think it's worth the investment on a cost per wear basis. I've made too many mistakes in the past buying cheap and then not really liking it, in the long run it's a false investment. Ignore trends, as long as it looks good on you and you love it, the amount of wear you'll get out of something will balance out the initial cost.

FeelinSpendy · 29/11/2020 10:43

Good advice above. There’s so many times I’ve been lusting after some item of clothing, only to find out it doesn’t suit me or fit well when I eventually try it on.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 29/11/2020 10:44

Use Klarna and then you don’t pay until you kee it. Hush quality is pretty dire so I think your plan b is better!

Beachlovingirl · 29/11/2020 12:13

@Ponks @MarmaladeTeepee @FeelinSpendy and @DazzlePaintedBattlePants I agree. I am going to order the hush stuff. I think I’m scared I’ll just love it lol. I am also going to put the purchase on the credit card. If I keep the hush stuff and return the other stuff, that’s half of it paid for any way. I just wish I had just gone ahead with the hush order! I’m so indecisive sometimes Blush

Depends if you can afford it, and are these clothes you would wear again (or just for one day). I wouldn't buy anything like clothes if I can't really afford them. Especially if it's something that's not going to get lots of wear.

Beachlovingirl · 29/11/2020 13:30

@Coffee4me I don’t think I would wear the sequin sweatshirt all that much but then again I’m remote working and wear mostly comfy stuff these days! I wore my leather leggings the other day for a change and couldn’t wait to get them off lol.
I would wear the joggies a lot but the only people who would see me in them are my household, and when I go to nursery and the supermarket!

I can afford it but when it comes to spending money on myself rather than my children I always spend a lot of time umming and ahhing.

I'm all for treating yourself, but also making sure everything I buy, I really love. Good luck with the decision x

dasey · 29/11/2020 13:50

I've just checked out the joggers and I can't believe people would pay £300 for those Shock if I saw someone wearing them I'd assume they cost £15 from primark. There will likely be more longevity in the trousers you have ordered instead of a 'fashionable' alternative that people will realise in a few months look like ill fitting black sacks.

FeelinSpendy · 29/11/2020 15:24

If you’re not sure about the joggers (the bulk of the cost), what about trying Spanx leather-look jogger? Very similar style. Still not cheap but a lot less than the leather ones.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/11/2020 15:34

I've been really disappointed in some of my Hush stuff. Quality isn't very good in some items and really haven't been worth the money. It's hard to know if they are going to wash ok as some stuff REALLY doesn't.

Monkeytapper · 29/11/2020 15:45

How do you clean them? Or do you?...says ‘do not wash’ in care details. I know if I had a leather jacket I wouldn’t wash that but how about the ‘gusset’ part of the hush trousers, How do you keep that fresh?

BecomeStronger · 29/11/2020 15:47

I've only ever ordered from Hush once and everything went back. I couldn't believe the shoddy quality for the price.

havanka · 29/11/2020 15:49

I can't see Khaki faux leather joggers on the Mint Velvet site, but I think in that colour, you're better off going with real leather. I can't envisage khaki faux leather looking good quality, whereas you can get pretty good looking black faux versions.

Personally for that money I'd go for black even in the leather version, much more longevity in black. You really don't sound like you have the lifestyle (like all of us!) to get a lot of wear out of £300 trousers. Also the odd colours will nearly always go in the sale, so you might get them cheaper in a few weeks anyway, and still get to wear them on xmas day.

Deadsetondestruction · 29/11/2020 15:50

Hush quality is dire.
I would have went with supermarket/primark joggers and maybe ordered the sweat shirt if I really loved it.

Beachlovingirl · 29/11/2020 20:47

Thanks for all the replies I really appreciate your thoughts Smile

I am having the reiss and mint velvet stuff delivered tomorrow anyway so I will see what they’re like. The bodysuit from reiss I know I would wear quite a lot, fitted, v neck, can look smart for work or paired down for weekend. The joggers from mint velvet are indeed black @havanka and I’ve ordered the tapered faux leather trousers too again I can imagine getting wear out of both when I bore of jeans which I do. If I got the hush ones I would feel the need to suddenly stand up in my zoom calls to show off the £300 joggies Grin. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!

Fallsballs · 29/11/2020 22:04

I’ve also found hush quality bad re the sweatshirts. They go enormous when you wash them, no matter how carefully you do it and my last one split at the armholes after one wear. Found their customer service a bit shit too. I have their overpriced joggers and whilst they feel nice, they look no different to cheaper ones and I won’t be getting another pair.
In short I’m giving up on hush !

The outfit you've ordered sounds lovely, and adaptable. Both investment pieces, you'll get plenty of wear from them.

Those leather joggers are hideous.

Sooverthemill · 30/11/2020 13:53

I wish I could justify buying the hush joggers or leather jeans! Would love them. Leather lasts for ever and if you buy a classic style they won't date. The sequin top may not 'last' so long but I bet you will wear it each year. I have tons of hush stuff and have very few problems with quality. I do choose carefully and wash everything with care ( like everything) but I think it's great

EdinaMonsoon · 30/11/2020 14:00

I've found Hush to be good quality for sweatshirts. I have their star sweatshirt from 2 years ago which still looks new. Love their jeans too. My favourite pair are now 4 years old and still going strong. Their knitwear, however, is dire and their over-reliance on polyester for dresses & tops is unacceptable!

I agree that perhaps a black pair of leather joggers would be a better investment than khaki, if you really want to go for leather. I have a pair of Topshop faux leather trousers that, again, are 4 years old (I have bought clothes recently, honest!) and they still look good. They've kept their shape and can be thrown in the washing machine.

Beachlovingirl · 30/11/2020 19:41

Ok everyone. I received the cheaper alternative items today. Hmm
The joggers looked like waterproof trousers. They were not good. The main issue was the black fabric that was thin and the cuffs at the ankles. If I sat down and therefore the cuff moved up the leg, when I stood up it would stay there in a rather unattractive way.

The tapered trousers were just massive around the hips and thighs and were more waterproof riding trousers and also thin fabric.

They’ve both gone back.

What this journey had taught me is that if I buy a jogger it must have a non cuff ankle. They should probs not be black, and should be leather. I know I would wear a jogger style a lot though - immediately obvious was how comfy the jogger style is and totally suitable for being on the floor with my 3 year old - even if the rest wasn’t what I was after.

Tl;dr I think I will order the hush joggers in the dark red. I won’t order the sequin sweatshirt. If these are just not great then I will change tack to a leather legging.

I hope everyone else is having more luck with a Christmas Day outfit :-)

I had this dilemma with Hush leather leggings a couple of years back, maybe 3 years. I ended up getting a pleather pair from H&M instead, which I did wear a fair bit. Roll on this year, they're pretty tight & baggy style is more in. I've now got a baggier pair of leather trousers (also fake) from Warehouse last year that I've been wearing a lot more. So I guess my advice is that trousers are not timeless, and leather joggers IMO is something that will definetly go out of fashion so I'd be reluctant to spend a lot.

sofiaaaaaa · 30/11/2020 20:51

Khaki leather joggers do not sound great - sorry! I’m early 20s and wouldn’t wear them. If anything, they’d look okay for one outfit but you’ll struggle to restyle them.
