Warm things for cold feet

Gwenhwyfar · 27/11/2020 20:31

Hi there
I have bad circulation so I'm looking for WARM but reasonably priced

socks
ankle boots
slippers

I have snow boots, but they're too big and too much faff. Smaller versions would be more practical, for wearing in temperatures between 5 and around minus 5.

Thanks in advance.

Not quite what you've asked but sheepskin insoles are amazing and make almost any slipper, shoe or boot toasty warm. Celtic and Co do thick ones ideal for slippers but I find them too thick for outdoor shoes. Deichman sells thin ones.

CMOTDibbler · 27/11/2020 20:39

Socks - HeatHolders are my favourite by far. They are thick, but lush
Slippers - I have some knock off Ugg like sheepskin boots that I wear as slippers. They seem much better than any slippers I've had since they have a thicker sole, and as boots keep my ankles warm which really helps (also applies to your hands - keep your wrists warm and your hands will be warmer)

bellagogosdead · 27/11/2020 20:39

I have splashed out on some lovely wool mix socks from john lewis this winter and they really make a difference. lovely Grin

Skechers boots are very cosy, but too unstable for my dodgy knee, but might work for you.

WhereAreWeNow · 27/11/2020 20:41

Thermal socks (I like uniqlo heat tech) layered - 2 pairs when cold, one thin and one thick pair.
Sheepskin insoles
Sheepskin slippers.

womanthatfelltoearth · 27/11/2020 20:42

I bought some of these earlier this week as my feet have been stone cold by the end of the day. Also suffer with poor circulation. Currently very good price!

KOOLABURRA BY UGG Boot Koola Short High https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DXROIW2/ref=cmswwrcppapifabccirwWFb1PFNTC5?encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Wear with socks and now have toasty feet. Also wear wrist warmers which have helped keep my hands warm.

nemeton · 27/11/2020 20:56

I agree with the sheepskin insoles- the pair I had lasted about eight years and we're just so warm.

I have a pair of Leonore boots from doc martens which are faux fur lined and very warm. They're heavier than normal footwear though, so if you usually trip around in ballet flats it may take a while to adjust.

At home, (I am WFH since 2nd lockdown) I have been wearing ankle warmers every day over my lounge pants. They make a big difference for me.

Socks with cashmere in, even only a small percentage (e.g. 8 or 10%) make a huge difference to warmth.

I always have a blanket over my legs and feet in the evening, even in summer!

Just after I wrote my post I remembered buying sheep skin insoles from Deichman. I'll have to see if I still have them.

heat holders ultra thin - fit inside normal shoes. toasty !
I wear slippers - sheepskin booties and ugg boots. Sheepskin all the way

TheSpottedZebra · 27/11/2020 21:07

A big yes to woollen socks. Buy a couple of pairs, and wear them over another pair of socks, so you can get a couple of days wear out of the woolly ones

"Buy a couple of pairs, and wear them over another pair of socks, so you can get a couple of days wear out of the woolly ones"

Oh, I already do things like that.

Perfectly acceptable, they're called sock liners Grin

Grin
Sandytoes86 · 28/11/2020 14:24

I highly recommend the fur lined doc marten Chelsea boots if you’re open to that style . They are very practical while look cool imo. They are like wearing slippers but with a very good sole. I get chillbleins and these save my feet.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/11/2020 14:24

I've got a pair of fluffy Merrell boots which keep my icy feet warm. Double yes to wool socks - toasty!

Sandytoes86 · 28/11/2020 14:25

I see a Pp has also suggested them ..the Leonore boots !

nemeton · 28/11/2020 15:31

@Sandytoes86 Come to think of it, I haven't had any chilblains this year yet!

mogloveseggs · 28/11/2020 15:35

these socks are amazing. Pricey and thick but so warm.

goose1964 · 28/11/2020 16:36

I recommend heat holders, they're really comfortable and are the best thermal socks I've ever bought but they are fluffy so not ideal under some footwear

Gwenhwyfar · 28/11/2020 18:36

Thanks everyone. I'm sort of realising none of this is going to be cheap.

OP posts:
Gwenhwyfar · 13/12/2020 19:35

Has anyone tried these? They're much more expensive than what I'd normally buy, especially if I'm not able to try them on first, but they look warm and also look nice.

Where I am, it's currently -20C. Really, you just want two pairs of socks and a pair of Uggs, fake or genuine. I tend to go for the uniqlo heattech knee-high socks (under trousers of course) and then a thicker pair over them. I used to wear proper snow boots, and none of them, regardless of the price, were as warm as my knock-off Uggs.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/12/2020 16:45

Are the Uggs waterproof Rachey?

Like these ones @bellagogosdead ?

I have other Sketchers to the boots might work for me too.

Another recommendation for heat holders! Only thing that keeps my feet warm in winter.
