Has anyone seen a jumper like this please?

Actually, there are probably plenty but I haven’t yet seen one I like! Camel tones, roll neck, preferably cashmere but a mix is okay, budget up to £150 but less is good too!! Will also consider crew neck if it’s the right tone and a nice shape.

I ordered one from the White Company but it’s a really light knit and a bit too thin and see through for the money. Have liked Boden cashmere in the past but can’t see anything there. Pure Collection looks a bit drab.

All suggestions welcome! Thanks!

This Reiss one looks good?

Mark’s and Spencer’s have a cashmere roll neck.

Blownaway22 · 27/11/2020 17:25

Oh I really like the Reiss and Woolovers that are linked. What’s Woolovers cashmere like? I have a cashmerino jumper from there and it washes really well. Off to look at Marks now but first thoughts are to order those two to try on.

Thanks ladies!

Have you looked at Celtic & co?

LunaNorth · 27/11/2020 17:49

I’m lusting after these at the moment after seeing them linked on another thread...

gorgeous jumpers

Have you considered a cotton cashmere mix? Uniqlo do them and they are easy care and stay as new for years. Sometimes available new with tags on eBay.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I am honestly just curious why anyone would pay £150 for a jumper when you can get one for a tenth of the price? Is it really 10x better quality? Or is it because of the style etc, is it truly worth it for you?

As I said, I really don't mean any offence by this post. Its just very different to anyone I know and am curious that's all. Happy black friday :)

@Siw2020 I guess there are three reasons I spend more on clothes personally.
  1. Quality costs money, and I want to invest in items that will last and I’ll wear again and again. I’m not sure it’s as easy to quantify as a £150 jumper is 10 times ‘better’ than a £15 jumper. But yes, it really should be much, much better quality (unless it’s a shit company that is ripping you off....which probably does happen!) I get that there is the odd gem to be found in the supermarket/Primark/wherever but generally that £150 jumper will be worn (and look good) for much, much longer than a cheap jumper.

  2. I like clothes and want to buy things that look nice and feel nice. As above, I understand that sometimes cheap clothes do look good, but generally they look and feel cheap to me. It’s hard to explain but if you buy and wear some of those pricier, good quality times, it’s hard to go back as cheaper clothes often feel poorly made, the materials aren’t as nice, the cuts aren’t as nice etc.

  3. Ethics. Most important. I know that spending more on clothes does not guarantee that the people who made them were paid fairly or anything else. Expensive brands also have terrible practices. But paying tiny prices for clothes guarantees that the people who made them were not paid or treated fairly. Essentially, there is a minimum you should expect to pay for ethically made clothing (and I’m confident it is more than £15 for a jumper). For example, this article www.refinery29.com/en-gb/2016/06/114199/ethical-clothing-costs suggests that an ethically made pair of jeans is likely to cost no less than £70. A £250 pair of jeans isn’t necessarily fairly made, but a £25 pair of jeans is very likely to be made unethically. If you look up genuinely ethical brands, you’ll find it very difficult (impossible?) to get a jumper for £15.

Honestly, I find the ‘race to the bottom’ in clothing - selling and buying the cheapest clothing and driving this sense of ‘why would I spend £100 on a pair of jeans when I can buy one in Primark for £10’ - pretty worrying for the environment, and for the people that make our clothes.

Sasuma Can I ask a genuine question as well please,

Do you wince when you take it out of the washing machine? I would be so scared of shrinkage or if it came out mishapen.

Sasuma · 27/11/2020 21:10

@Blownaway22 this ones might fit the bill, over budget sadly but they have a 20% discount at the mo:

I would really avoid Me+Em for knitwear. My last two purchases pilled badly and lost their shape. It’s a shame as I rate their other ranges. I really like Boden cashmere too and have found M&S and John Lewis cashmere surprisingly good.

Blownaway22 · 27/11/2020 21:42

Wow, thank you for so many links to gorgeous jumpers - some are lovely and I’ll be going back for a proper look!

@Siw2020, Sasuma has probably summed it up much more eloquently than I could! In this case, I was given the White Co jumper as a gift but don’t like it so that’s my budget when it’s returned. For me, I bought a cashmere jumper from Pure Collection maybe 7 years ago. I still have it and love it - it feels amazing and is soo warm and hasn’t really dated. Have a couple more since but max probably £120. I guess this is a treat!

@Toppered - mind if I jump in? The short answer should be no because good quality cashmere should never go into the washing machine unless you have one with a really, truly, gentle cycle. I hand wash and dry flat or dry clean (when I can't be bothered to hand-wash) mine.
