We're getting some family photos done. Nice natural ones at home and some outside at the park.

It's expensive so I really want to like the pictures, the thing is I'm the least photogenic person you have ever met!

It's not just me saying that, everyone agrees that I look bad in photos.

As a result I hate pictures and avoid them.

But I'd really love to have a nice photo of our family.

Kids photo beautifully and look like little angels but I'd like one of all of us.

I'm getting my hair done as soon as lockdown is over. I'm not wild about my cut but it's not the moment to experiment I don't think.

What else can I do to look good. Any magic products or prep tips?

Anyone found any websites or anything on how to take a better picture?

Too late for Botox....

Try having some photos where you're not looking directly at the camera as these look more natural and you'll be much more relaxed than trying to pose for the camera. For example laughing or looking down at your children. The photographer should be able to direct you and help put you at ease.
As for style and beauty tips, keep it natural. Heavy makeup never looks good. I personally really like Bareminerals complexion rescue and it always makes me look radiant in photos. Then just add a bit of blush and mascara and don't forget concealer for any dark circles etc.
Keep the clothes simple, anything overly patterned can soon look dated.
Also keep your hair how you would usually have it then you feel comfortable but make sure it's well trimmed and styled.
I'm sure you don't look as bad as you think. We're all our own worst critics! Smile

Also make sure your eyebrows are tidy!

Your family and friends are lovely aren't they, telling you that you look bad in photos!
Speak to your photographer op they should be able to capture you in your best way.
Remember that the flash sometimes will bleach out your makeup, I think there is special makeup specifically for photos.

My family and friends are being nice saying I look bad in photos! When I cringe and can't look at pictures of myself they reassure me that that's not how I look in real life!

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to look at bare minerals.

Does leopard print count as neutral or will it date / clash?

It would probably clash. I think a nice block colour would be better.

I'm not photogenic either but something that helps me is to keep a relatively composed face but smile wjth my eyes - not in a crinkled unflattering way, but thinking warm thoughts and literally smile with your eyes keeping them as wide and big as possible. Obviously have some smiling photos too, particularly if playing in park etc.
Also a ring light directly in front of you - the photographer will hopefully have one?
A dress or jumpsuit ratber than separates that could look messy if flopping out of wajst etc.
Eye and lip definition - eyeliner, mascara, subtle lipliner
Highlighter on tops of cheeks but matte on T Zone.

I would say this is exactly why you are paying a professional and you should get some lovely natural shots which you will love .
We have done this a few times and although I don’t normally like all the Photos there are usually some I am happy to display.
I have some info sent to me by one of the photographers which I will paste in another message if I can find it.
Definitely tell the photographer your worries !

What is it that you don’t like about yourself in photos?
