Chin hair no pcos

I've had my hormone blood tests. All normal. I've had a pcos scan at the hospital and all normal. Yet I have tons of chin hair that is needing to be plucked daily. Its really getting me down I'm in my late 20s. What else can cause this? It started around 21 years old.

I have the same problem and don't have PCOS - I'm just hairy. It can just be bad luck! Once lockdown's done I'm making an appointment to have it lasered off.

MorrisBonsson · 24/11/2020 13:27

Genes, shave it and laser with lumea.

It's so time Consuming as well.

Yes I’m the same! I’ll go the loo at work cos the mirror is good there, have a good pluck and think ahhh lovely, all smooth. Then half an hour later I’ll touch my chin and all the ones I’d plucked the day before have started to come through

Chocaholic9 · 24/11/2020 13:35

I have to pluck every couple of days too. Loads of coarse chin hairs and as a previous poster said, you pluck one lot, then a day later you find another lot come through. Lots of women I know get them too. I think it's normal.

I also got a PCOS scan. I don't have PCOS.

I have PCOS and had really dark chin hair. I plucked, but my chin and top lip always felt stubbly. I started electrolysis and never looked back! If your hair is dark, it's a game changer! Took about a year of 3 weekly visits to see permanent results. I've just had a baby and was worried it might come back, but so far it hasn't 😁
If you are worried there may be a hormonal cause, you could look into reducing sugar consumption. As I remember (and memory not the best at moment - tired!), this can help your body to balance - sugar causes inflammation and a stress response which can result in 'androgens' being produced which mimic testosterone.

I genuinely thought the only reason for excessive facial hair in women was down to hormones.

It’s actually surprising to know it can happen without having hormonal / PCOS problems

I agree re lumea for home zapping or salon laser/electrolysis if you have the funds.

I use a lumea (the basic one) on all of my hairy bits. It has worked wonders for me.

SunshineYello · 24/11/2020 13:53

Another point to consider, I regularly had blood tests that came back 'normal' but there is a range that you fall within and you can be borderline. My PCOS was picked up by an internal probe where they saw the cysts.
Obviously not saying this is the case with you, but if you're not happy you can go back to the Dr and discuss what else can be done to help with your hair. Prior to the electrolysis, I was put on progesterone only pill for my hair and it really helped. I had to come off though as it caused mood swings.

Get one of these. It’s painful at first but you get used to it and it’s very thorough, pulling out even the little hairs before they get to be big prickly monsters. You need to replace them occasionally once the springs loosen but they are inexpensive. I have one in my handbag, one by my bed, one by the settee etc. I use the little blade included for emergency touch ups.

Don’t pluck!!!! (Or thread, in my experience)

Like you I started getting these in my 20s (mid-late) and I plucked and plucked and it got a bit worse and so I discovered threading and it got SO MUCH WORSE. I genuinely think I created 90% of the problem by treating it wrongly (for me; I know these methods work for some people)

I have no PCOS, I’m just quite hirsute! Pale skin dark hair which makes the facial hair look so much worse BUT makes you an ideal candidate for laser.

I saved up for laser and the results were dramatic.

That’s 15 years ago now and I probably need a professional top-up but for the time being I keep it at bay with home laser device.

It’s all more expensive than threading/ tweezing obv but I don’t really have a choice. Alternative for me is to look like Blackbeard...

I’m very jealous of anyone who CAN tweeze or thread but it was truly a disaster for me. I ended up with a full on bristly moustache. Even the nice laser lady couldn’t hide her genuine horror on my first appointment Blush but I’m so so glad I saved up and did it.

Lottiebugz22 · 24/11/2020 14:13

It's nice to know it's quite common. I'm going to look into laser and see if I can afford it. I've read that spearmint supplements can also help reduce the hair growth.

I’ve had electrolysis and would recommend it. I don’t have PCOS either.

As an aside, can you imagine what women looked like before mirrors were invented Shock
