Are GHDs worth the money

Am considering a pair as I use my straighteners to wave my hair every day.

Are they actually any better and do they last any longer?

Thanks

Watching with interest

Mine turns 13 this year. Still as perfect as the day I got it. Fantastic gift at the time. I don't know if I will buy a replacement though when the time comes as there are some Revlon alternatives which are just as sleek now.

heidbuttsupper · 23/11/2020 18:47

I've had mine 5 years, still going strong

Redlocks28 · 23/11/2020 18:50

I’ve only ever had GHDs-I got them nearly 17 years ago and they are still superb. The cable is a bit twisty but they are in great condition otherwise.

captainprincess · 23/11/2020 18:50

I've still got my very first pair which I must have got in 2005/2006 and they still work fine! I have updated since then but keep them as a spare Grin

Closingtime94 · 23/11/2020 18:52

Yes, I had my last pair for 10 years and my new pair for 4 and no problems what so ever

bananaramadramas · 23/11/2020 18:53

Apparently the newer ones are not as good as the originals. Everyone raves about cloud 9's now. I love never tried cloud 9's so can't comment. I still have my very old ghds.

ladymuck111 · 23/11/2020 18:55

My ghd's gave up on me after having them for a long time. I bought some glamoriser ones from Argos that cost me £35 and they are just as good. I'm

sympatico1 · 23/11/2020 18:57

Got some for Christmas last year - sorry, but they are no better, performance wise, than my Babyliss ones.

Stressedmummyof4 · 23/11/2020 19:03

@bananaramadramas

I think this too, I got my first pair in 2005 still going strong but last year DH got me a new pair (he didn't know I already had those ones). And I have to say they really aren't as good, they even feel cheeper. I'm still using my old ones and the newer ones are tucked away in a drawer as a spare!

Smallgoon · 23/11/2020 21:08

I've had the same straighteners since 2004, still going strong. They were the original GHDs, doubt they do the same model still. I believe that their newer models don't last as long, judging by my friends telling me theirs no longer work... My guessing is that they deliberately design them to now last 4-5 years so that consumers can keep replacing. Makes them more money I guess.

I've owned a pair of their curlers, can't remember which ones. They were awful. Lasted around 3 years and GHD refused to do anything since they were no longer in warranty. Even when they worked, they didn't hold a curl as well as other tongs I've had. The best I've had were by Hot Tools.

BenoneBeauty · 23/11/2020 21:20

The original GHDs were amazing but the recent ones are not great. Replaced mine with Cloud 9s and they're fab, totally recommend! They're like the original GHDs.

GeidiPrimes · 24/11/2020 00:45

Mine have lasted 15 years, and I don't think I've ever even needed to change a fuse in that time.

Lisa78Lemon · 24/11/2020 00:47

18 years ago got mine shipped from Australia! Still works & have never straightened my hair with anything else!

Levatrice · 24/11/2020 00:50

My original ones lasted 14 years! Have the newer ones now I think last years edition and I hate them 😭 too big and hard to keep closed to straighten the hair they just feel really fiddly and don’t have as good an effect as the originals.

SantaSpreadsCovid · 24/11/2020 01:11

I've had a pair for about fifteen years now, a couple of years ago dh bought me some of the newer limited edition ones and I don't like them as much as my original ones.

The original ones worth every penny. The new fancy ones I wouldn't recommend.

happymummy12345 · 24/11/2020 01:14

For me 100%. I love mine

S0CKS · 25/11/2020 08:44

Mine are ten years old this year, I don't straighten my hair often but mine are in perfect nick still

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 25/11/2020 10:38

I have ancient GHDs which are brilliant, but I have heard the newer ones aren’t as good. I did buy a cheap Remington pair last Christmas to keep in my desk at work and those are fine. Perhaps not as good as my GHDs but they were only £30.

snugglepuff · 25/11/2020 10:39

I had my first ones for 20 years. About a year in to my second and it will probs be 20 years before I need to replace it! Definitely worth the money

ItsStartingToFeelLikeChristmas · 25/11/2020 10:42

Had mine about 10 years.. never had any issues.
Had a pair previous that got broken in my luggage on holiday.
Previous to those had a pair that broke.ghd replaced free of charge

PuppyMonkey · 25/11/2020 10:45

Had my GHDs for 16 years and still going strong.

Shelby30 · 25/11/2020 10:48

I got my first pair in 2002/3 and they lasted about 12/13 yrs. They never actually broke but I had used a friends and they were a lot better so I don't think they were performing to same standard. So I bought a beautiful purple pair of ghds and they only lasted just over 2yrs. I got them repaired and they broke again a month later so went in the bin 😫

I then bought a pair about £30 to tide me over and they were actually very good. I bought a new pair of ghds about 2 yrs ago as I saw a fab deal on them think it was an error. Got them and a curling/wave thing for about £70!

There are lots of great alternatives out there though that are pretty good so I'm not sure I wld splurge for ghds again unless a bargain.
