Really tough kids wellies - do they exist?!

My kids play hard, and their wellies take the brunt!!
I’ve just had both a Next and M&S pair crack (realised AFTER they’d paddled in the stream of course!). Can anyone recommend wellies that’ll last a couple of winters and take a battering? Ideally not over £20?! Kids are 5 and 2!

I used JoJo Maman Bebe when they were very small, then moved to Joules and now using Hunters mainly due to not finding anything else in the right size! But I've never made it past a single winter as the kids feet grow so quickly they need new sizes before the next one comes around. Amazed anyone gets 2 years use out of footwear, lucky you! 😀

IndecentFeminist · 21/11/2020 13:57

I just buy basic pairs from local country store, Moles or Scats. They're under £10 normally and tend to last enough to be handed down.

Like this sort of thing. Not pretty patterns or colours granted, but they withstand a beating.

TriciaMcMillan · 21/11/2020 13:59

Sorry, just saw you've said not more than £20. You can usually get discount codes for both JoJo and Joules so that should bring them in around that.

Welshponyslave · 21/11/2020 14:02

I was going to recommended Hunters when I read your thread title, I buy them for my DC. We have ponies and are outside at the beach, woods etc a lot so they wear their wellies year round for at least 2 hours a day. The hunters last to be handed down from my oldest to youngest and then on to my niece!
If you look on Vinted or FB selling sites you can usually get them cheaper, also try Very in the sales.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 21/11/2020 14:03

Hunters .. made to last!

LtGreggs · 21/11/2020 14:05

For the 5 year old - move to walking boots as soon as their feet are big enough (somewhere like Mountain Warehouse will have for £20). Much more practical, warm & tough going than wellies.

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/11/2020 16:02

Kuling are fab, and really reasonable priced for how good they are.

KateMAB · 21/11/2020 17:26

Dunlops. Best wellies ever been through 5 kids and still fit to be passed on to friends kids.

randomsabreuse · 21/11/2020 17:29

Sainsbury's have done well for my 2. Gruffalo designs have done both DC and been fit to pass on, although DC2 is faster growing than DC1 so goes through sizes quicker.

LolaLollypop · 21/11/2020 17:31

I bought DD (3) some Celery winter walking boots from Sports Direct. They were half price at £18. They’re better than any wellies she’s had! Keep her feet warm and dry even when she splashes through rivers!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/11/2020 17:32

Dunlop’s. Boring green wellies. Best ones. Also fairly cheap.

pinkbalconyrailing · 21/11/2020 17:33

hiking shoes from outdoor stores.
decathln has decent ones that would be in the price range.

LolaLollypop · 21/11/2020 17:37

Gelert not celery!!

Curtainsdrawn · 21/11/2020 17:43

I wish Celery really was a boot brand @lolalollypop!!
Thanks for the recommendations, I usually get gender neutral colours that can be passed down, so I’ll check out the standard (boring) Dunlops as they seem popular, and keep an eye out for Hunter bargains. I think the 5yo would love walking boots and I’ve never considered them for her before, so I’ll definitely look at Gelert (and Celery) thanks!

Demar from amazon. Amazing! Ours have never leaked as they're moulded in one piece upper and sole and they come with a sheepskin lining that makes them really cosy in winter.

BellaVida · 21/11/2020 17:51

Another vote for Dunlop. My 4 DC have all had them and they’re very sturdy! You can get the plain rubber boots or Blizzard boots, which have a thick fur lining To keep their feet toasty warm. Not too expensive either.

WildWindBlows · 21/11/2020 17:54

Also agree with Dunlops. Ds and I have the fleece lined ones, had mine years and they're like new.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 21/11/2020 17:54

Also agree with dunlop, boring but have always lasted far longer than any others I've bought

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 21/11/2020 17:55

(I like the boring green btw!)

uggbooted · 21/11/2020 18:27

Hunters last forever. Our family set in increasing sizes have been well worn by three DC here and then onto their two younger cousins. Well worth it if you can pick up a bargain

Depends what walks you’re going on but Walking boots won’t do the job for some walks. I’m thinking our local woods in winter after rain, thick mud that goes up higher than a walking boots. Plus so easy just pour a bottle of water over wellies at the end of the walk to get rid of mud.

Op best wellies ever are le chameau BUT they makes the price of hunters looks like peanuts.
However - if you scour eBay out of winter season, you should find brilliant bargains and they are phenomenal. I splurged On a pair for myself. Warmer than slippers, but never get sweaty and so so robust.
