44 year old face. I think more dehydrated than dry, areas of concern are frown lines and 11’s on forehead and the under eye area is a bit sunken/puffy(?). Bit of hyperpigmentation too. Skin is generally fine but can break out if it doesn’t agree with anything too heavy.

Looking at The Ordinary but not sure where to start.

Can anyone recommend a few products / brands to start with? Botox and fillers not an option unfortunately

Hi OP. Is it serum/moisturiser you're looking for?

Paddingtonthebear · 18/11/2020 18:42

I’m not really sure to be honest!

I’ve just today signed up for a free trial with Skin & Me so will see how that goes

Good luck with that. I can't recommend highly enough using an oil after you've cleansed and toned (especially at night) . Rosehip oil is amazing

Thanks I have an Elemis oil which I’ve been using since July but haven’t noticed much bangs

If you can use rosehip oil every night, you'll get intense hydration

I've used The Ordinary products for few years now and really believe my regime has made a difference to my skin: I'm 55 now and wish they had been available sooner. I've actually got V V dry and reactive skin - prone to eczema and psoriasis, but if it gets too dry it actually becomes greasy as it tries to self moisturise and then I get horrid cystic acne - ouch.

The Ordinary have their yearly 23% off everything Sale until the 27th November, Halloween Grin and I try and use the online beauty stores when they have price reductions. They have lots of info on each product on the website and also offer bundles at good prices.

First of all, Hyaluronic acid morning and night after cleansing - ideally use a cream or oil based cleanser. I use about 3 -5 drops and apply to both face, neck and chest.

You might like to use a toner after cleansing - I use a glycolic or rosewater formula - usually the Aldi Lacura dupes of the Pixi toners, so much cheaper and I have to say, just as good. Aldi seem to have them every few months or so in the special buys.

Next, at night, after the Hyaluronic acid, I use a product called Buffet . This serum is a cocktail of peptides, fab anti-ageing chemicals that just work like magic Grin. It should not be used at the same time as a Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) products, so if you do use these use them in the morning regime.

A few times a week at night I use a retinoid. This is a powerful anti-aging acid, in my case in an oil base. Again, don't use with Vit C products, and use a sunscreen especially if you use retinoids. When you first use retinoids, start off with a low percentage as it can cause skin sensitivity - you might want to do a patch test before use. The product I use is Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane .

I might also use rose oil a few times a week; The Ordinary or Aldi Lacura (dupe for Pixi) are both great.

Then I will use a cream serum - Nuxe Creme Frais if I can afford it (not often!) and a day or night moisturiser. Again Aldi or Superdrug are excellent and well priced.

Sorry if the sense and spelling are a bit peculiar; the OH has talked at me all through my typing (he has this awful stream of consciousness natter he does) and the dog has been throwing (yes he actually lobs it at me!) the ball at me and barking; it was more peaceful when I had 5 children at home!
